If Gen con happens. There will be lots of parties.

That's the strongest argument *against* holding Gen Con that I've seen yet

If they hold Gencon there will be wide access to prevention, and world travel will be seen regularly again. August seems hopeful, and yet I am hopeful.

It is all going to come down to insurance and city /state regulations

That is what I said, wide availability of a vaccine. I expect insurance will require such things and proof from attendees, and I’d bet my 50’ of rope in it.

IMO watch for large sporting events to get their audiences back. Probably the best bellwether of when thing like cons will be allowed again.

Agreed, if we're not seeing things like baseball games (which are outdoors and can be socially distanced by selling limited seating) accepting attendees, we won't be seeing many cons.

I really think Gen Con is on the fence and could go either way. I agree that keeping a close eye on sporting events is a good indicator. But, as mentioned, sporting events could be outdoors and have limited capacity allowing them to space out where people sit. I think that's more problematic for cons. I've seen other forums where people suggest requiring proof of being vaccinated. I think that would be very difficult to enforce. Social distancing will be impossible at Gen Con. Even an indoor mask-wearing requirement would be difficult to enforce. And do you see how many people don't bother to cover their nose when wearing a mask?

It may come down to when do we think the general population will achieve herd immunity? That sort of depends upon how fast they can roll out the vaccines and what percent of the population will bother to get it? The one thing in Gen Con's favor is that Indiana generally is receptive to opening things up faster than many other states. San Diego Comic Con attendees are very worried about next year's July con and a big factor is how restrictive California has been. Based on Gen Con's last email it seem we may not get another update until February or March. Here's hoping for the best.

Being a touch cynical, I kind of wonder if they have to act like an event is for sure gonna happen to maintain some kind of cancellation insurance.

Sporting events. Baseball and football are mostly outside.
Basketball and hockey( mostly) inside. Those are what we need to look at. Not the sorts outside but the ones inside

I guess any indoor event that brings hundreds or thousands of people together might fall into the same category. Indoor music concerts might be another thing to watch.

Remember, that contracts with hotels, etc. need to be signed many months before the convetion. Before it's clear how many people will be vaccinated. -- I give Gencon 50-50 odds right now, and Origins 0% :(
