TOPIC: Indiana plan to re-open

Indiana plan to re-open 10 months 4 weeks ago #49

If it does happen, I'm curious to see how big the attendance drop off will be. I periodically check the GENCON Housing Block to see if Embassy Suites downtown opens up, and I have yet to see any hotels available closer than 6 miles. It seems the majority of people are at least keeping the option to attend open.

Hotels are opening up fairly often, but they're getting snatched up quickly, too. I was able to grab a room at the Union Station hotel by following this Twitter account.

twitter.com/LivingDice

They have a bot running to announce whenever a hotel opens up.

I suggested to Lori that she should get class themed material and make masks for TD runs. You would not only have a TD mask but in your class and made by Martin. Another source of revenue for TD. I could see groups buying a set of 10 masks for their group.

By the end of the year, I think 95% of us will have been exposed, so its only a matter of time and genetic luck- are you one of the rare, very vulnerable people or not?

Pretty much this. Several studies are finding out that far more people have already had COVID-19. One prison that was studied showed that 98% of the inmates had COVID-19 antibodies and 96% of those infected never had symptoms. With the new data it looks like it has a death rate of 0.05% in the general population

It is still a VERY deadly virus to some people. The elderly are at extremely high risk! It certainly is more deadly than the flu but that could be because we have yearly vaccines for the flu so less people get it.

Then again, this is just with current data. All that may change as we find out more.

1.4 million cases. 80,000 plus deaths. That’s the data. It’s an order of magnitude higher mortality than the flu.

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone got a mask along with their badge, or when they pick up the welcome packet.

I suggested to Jeff that he consider some TD-branded/themed masks.

Heck... make a GenCon 2020 TD Players Kit:
  • 4 TD-themed masks (a different one for each day of the con!)
  • TD-branded sanitizer
  • Your own puck! Don't worry about touching a "used" puck ;)

For bonus points also make a GenCon 2020 TD Volunteers Kit:
  • 4 TD-themed masks (different from the player ones)
  • Even more TD-branded sanitizer
  • Bonus for combat DMs: your very own croupier stick to slide pucks back to players!

I'm just saying...if we could get a digital pattern for my embroidery machine...we've already talked about making some class masks. I was thinking bout picking up quilting cotton in all the puck colors :)

We did an impromptu poll on the fan page. Seems to be a decent number of attendees who have badges and rooms that are waiting to see if Gencon cancels who don't plan on attending, so they don't have to cancel themselves and eat the cancellation cost.

Cutoff date for the hotel one full night charge is June 8th. I would suspect that a few days before there will be a lot of DT rooms popping up as people don't want to get nailed with a full night room charge over $50 charge now.

To cancel a room, or get one that was cancelled?

Unless there's some new development that points to a quicker turnaround in things I'll be cancelling. Based on the data I look at and the models of disease progression I don't feel comfortable bringing my family to the Con right now. Still some time though so will see how things look in June.

If GenCon gets cancelled I'm assuming (ass-u-me) the hotels will allow cancellations even after the cut-off date without a penatly. Like the hotels for Gary Con did a couple months ago.

I'm hanging onto our hotel and my VIG Badge until D-Day. And I will be attending GenCon if it is held. I'm pretty confident I'm immune to COVID-19.

I'm holding onto my out of block hotel rooms for now, and if they hold GENCON I'll make a decision on whether to attend shortly before Event Registration.

Given that the virus has killed 0.24% of the population of New York City, this is impossible.
