I would buy a Gen Con mask, even if the convention doesn't happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone got a mask along with their badge, or when they pick up the welcome packet.

Back in the day the elderly and lame would just wander into the woods/wild leaving the tribes/clans behind. They did this so as not to impose on the quality of living of the society.

We have nearly 9 billion people on Earth right now. The planet cannot sustain that kind of abuse from humanity that only cares about their selfish wants.

This virus as well as future ones along with increased natural disasters are not surprising. If you abuse the world you live and rely on then expect to have the scales balanced.

Maybe someone could snap their fingers and make half the humans disappear. Would that help?

As long as the potential Darwin Award winners are all included in that snap. As well as the ignorant and stupid and politicians and lawyers and quite a few others that are just a waste of a good egg and sperm.

I suggested to Jeff that he consider some TD-branded/themed masks.

Heck... make a GenCon 2020 TD Players Kit:
  • 4 TD-themed masks (a different one for each day of the con!)
  • TD-branded sanitizer
  • Your own puck! Don't worry about touching a "used" puck ;)

For bonus points also make a GenCon 2020 TD Volunteers Kit:
  • 4 TD-themed masks (different from the player ones)
  • Even more TD-branded sanitizer
  • Bonus for combat DMs: your very own croupier stick to slide pucks back to players!

Plexiglass dividers in the coaching room. Latex gloves for coaches, trainers, DMs. Best if changed between every group. (Thats my health care background coming out)

I thought we try to avoid latex due to some people having allergies? Nitrile gloves instead?

Get someone to sponsor it. Like the lanyards. I would use the mask, unlike the lanyards.

Haven't seen a timeline yet.

The "Event" section seems particularly applicable. I've been fortunate enough to run TD 4 times at Gencon (or what some of y'all would consider a light weekend of adventuring), and all joking aside, there is no way TD could run at standard capacity with those kinds of expectations. Which becomes a (rhetorical) question of just how low could the event go in terms of adventures run and players permitted and even hope to keep up with a vague (but genuine) effort at distancing? And would that minimum even remain financially viable in a way that didn't kneecap the company?

Obviously nobody here can answer that (or is likely to out loud), but it's something I'm keeping in mind as chatter occurs across the web on the matter. Even if the State and City permit the event to go through, if there's a massive falloff in attendees, even if it's enough to ease the distancing issues, it just becomes a question of how to pay for it all. And further, even if the Convention Center and other factors go with a reduced cost structure (because some money might be better than no money at all), the extra factors of masks and enhanced sanitation efforts and money lost in event tickets and merch and whatnot could make it a Pyrrhic victory even if it somehow does manage to happen.

Sorry to rain on parades, it's entirely speculation and thumb twiddling for us all, but as nice as it is for Indiana to have a plan to reopen, if those benchmarks aren't met (and ideally, by a massive margin), it's more a matter of When, not If a cancellation happens.

Of course, it's also kind of a Chicken/Egg situation. I imagine if TD and Paizo and FFG and a few other big names dropped out, it could be enough to finish things off anyways.

(also entirely unrelated but someone claimed the Earth is 'nearly at 9 billion people', we're not even at 8 yet, according to Google, and a whole billion people is kind of a major rounding error)

I'd buy a TD themed mask. Maybe have some fun with it, give a bonus -1 poison damage or something to players that wear them after the requirement to do so ends.

Maybe the masks could be class-specific?

But ones with the TD or Gen Con logos would be perfectly fine.
