At least with TD I can see where the money goes, staff, sets, etc as far as I can tell it's still just the same old gencon at a higher price. Only real difference seems to be were out in the boonies because every retailer must now have 3 copies of there booth in the dealers hall.

Badges this year are the same as last year. Unless you're a VIG holder, I think they went up some.

I cut back from 4 runs at GC to 2 last year. My son went from 4 to 3. i probably will not subsidize my sons friend group this year.

I do plan to be back at Origins and GHC.

That probably works out for TD. If they can still sell out GenCon, them me buying more tickets at other cons is a net positive.

I hope prices don't increase much. We've had several group members quit, and the price increase last year had several friends change from multiple dungeons to just one. If the prices continue to increase, it seems like just a matter of time before my friends quit entirely.

That bites.
It sounds like it’s time to impose a discount as a reward for players when they reach a certain level. 🤔

As nice as that sounds as a 8th level player. I do not like that idea. We need to keep new blood coming to the game. If folks at the top get a discount that someone else will have to bear I just don't like it. Also there would be no way to prevent people at the top buying tickets for those at the bottom.

You are correct however many people do not voice Their dissatisfaction and simply MoveOn. It becomes a balancing game of how much can I increase prices versus how much am I losing and alienating potential long term players who spend money on tokens versus attracting new players looking for a singular experience

I hope they don't go above 80 as well. I started in 2012 with 42 dollars I believe was the ticket price. Now 2018 was 78... 2019 maybe 80?? The wife and I should cut back on our runs... and we have... back from 14 to only...only 10 last year... or was it 11.. I think this year we will be shooting for 8 or 9 to get 3 chances to go through all 3 runs. And a grind. It's sad when your TD ticket cost match your in block hotel costs, but unlike most vets we are nuts...

I’m 3rd level soI’m at the bottom of the barrel. A lot of companies offer rewards or discounts for loyal customers, so it’s nothing the world isn’t used to. For the one-time experience and casual group the price point is what will turn them away not long-term players who get a discount they probably wouldn’t even know about.
As for top players giving XP tickets for those at the bottom...
I’m not saying get a discount at lvl 4. It could be lvl 8. And the discount could include the added criteria of having XP logged for at least X many dungeons and not allow people to enter XP tickets older than a year to deter power leveling which would still take a while to meet the criteria anyways. And if a person goes through that much trouble to get a discount...they probably wouldn’t even use the discount enough to make it worth the hassle.
Everyone has different breaking points when it comes to price. Mike stated one or several friends stopped due to the price. You’re going to lose casual and loyal customers based on price regardless of anything else. But wouldn’t you want to offer that long-term player a small discount knowing they’ll return again and again and probably order tokens and buy extra token bags?
I disagree about the idea of top lvl players making new players bear the higher cost. The long-term players are the ones who place hundreds and thousands of dollars in orders or deal in trades/partial orders that result in these large orders being done. They’re already going bearing a lot.
That’s my viewpoint though as a “newbie”.

Nick Braun wrote: The issue with not increasing the price as GenCon sells out is the idea of earning more money for the time put in. Since True Dungeon tickets are in shortage at GenCon, one of the options they have is to keep rasing the prices until they eventually don't sell out, then start decreasing the price until they sell enough tickets to meet there ticket goal.

Price increases aren't a terrible thing, if people aren't happy with the current state of cost, people should voice their opnion and ultimately decide whether the cost is worth the benefit.

But, if your still willing to pay the extra cost to ultimately play the new dungeon, then the price is at a relatively stable point to meet or exceed your benefit. Additionally, there is always the issue of alienating long time players who are used to paying a cheaper price, but for True Dungeon to suceed finacially there is a level of aleinating people in order to make a profit, ultimately making a better experience.

I’m still new but the price isn’t an issue for me luckily. I’m arguing for the sake of arguing so forgive me. 😅
Limited time & tickets I get that. So magic number $90 ensures all tickets sold and is the perfect balance. But this $12 increase cause 3 long-term players to not attend anymore and stop playing. These same 3 would place a $500 order every year by pulling their money together. So to me you made your extra $36 from the $12 increase but now possibly lost out in $464 for the year. That hurts TD.
That’s how I view it.

LOL I didn't mean to start a big debate over this. Sorry Jeff. But maybe it is for the best to discuss the cost of the events and what can be done.

My 2 cents.

I would like to see a cap on the ticket price for a year, maybe two. I realize cost go up, but the ticket prices are nearing cap for many, and I fear it will scare off many new players. I also realize Gencon takes a massive bite of that cost. Maybe a venue location change? Getting a little less Gencon control to escape their huge bite in that cost?

I also wouldn't be opposed to an increase on token packs over ticket price. $10 a pack is not a deal breaker.

You never know if a new player that you don't get because of a higher ticket price is going to be a big token buyer or not. The fact is we need new blood simply for the fact that veterans are not getting younger. Regardless of why they stop playing they will. The game has to be able to replace them and with more conventions we need more new players than those that will stop playing. If there is a discount for veterans then someone needs to pay for that discount. There are already rewards for 'length' of play. Lastly I imagine it would be darn near impossible to do with Gen Con's system. Any system that Jeff is running would need to talk to the XP database. Not impossible but does complicate things.

I agree, new blood is essential. I just hate seeing long-term players dropping out because of cost going up too much. I get costs go up due to taxes and all that. Just trying to help the long-term supporters of the game.

I don’t think placing TD at a location outside/near GenCon would be in TD best interest though. I think they would lose way too many ticket sales from new/casuals who are there for GenCon and don’t want to made additional side-travel.
