I saw a room like this for the first time at the first PAX South, and it was amazing!
No talking or noises--just chill.

I agree that there were limited chairs and tables in that area, but I'm grateful for the space we _did_ have.

No I did not know about it, Well that’s cool,
But the Con really needs more stuff
Up on the 3rd floor, as there was

Regarding food, the closest is the deli in the 1st floor lobby, just down 2 escalators. There isn't much chance, I'd say, of food options on the 3rd floor, and there isn't room on that small 2nd floor, and the convention center doesn't seem keen on vending (though they would be the ones to contact about any changes). Still, the 1st floor deli is more than they had (and closer) than two years ago, and I'd say better than the walk at Origins. (I think GenCon has closer options).

For a PAX solution, if the trip down & up is too much, I would say someone could go talk to Cookie Brigade about presence in the area. (They are associated with Child's Play charity, and thus the only group to bring outside food into the HBGCC.)

This was quite odd. While there were a few seats outside the doors/reg/transmute area, last year there was a whole group of seats & table in the area off the other side of the ballroom, that were inexplicably absent this year. No idea why, there was just a big empty area instead.

That would be the Take This! AFK room. For anyone who needs to get away from the con without leaving the con. Also available on the 2nd floor above the lobby are beanbags for the Handheld Lounge, as well as the classic arcade, MagFest Jamspace, unisex bathroom, Diversity Lounge, and (this year) Oculus room.

Regarding space on the 3rd floor, that's a bit deceptive. There's only 3rd floor above about 1/3 of the center. (It's East/left of the main lobby only). Of the 3rd floor, about 1/3 is taken up by TD (the ballroom, surrounding area, plus the 6 small rooms of which TD uses 1-3 for volunteers/dressing rooms, etc.), 1/3 is taken up by the Console room and Falcon theater, and 1/3 is behind the scenes hallways and the VR area. At most, there are 3 small modular rooms available for anything else, plus the strangely empty area between those 6 rooms.

There are a half dozen unused rooms on the 2nd floor on the opposite side of the HBGCC from TD, but even if they could be used for something of interest to TD fans, the walk would likely drive many insane.
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

What if we take the idea of the charm box and expand it? We could have like a Soylent trading post. Trading treasure pulls for a meal bottle.

So, I would say that everyone should fill out the survey that recently came from PAX.

Organizations tend to take this sort of feedback very seriously. While we may not get a cart with food or even drinks on level 3, more tables seems an easy get, for example.

I mentioned my annoyance with the metal detectors multiple times in my survey response.

This was their first year. I don't expect them to go anywhere. It was rough for me when I came through with 5 different things hanging off me, plus keys and phone, but we soldier on...

If this was their first year, perhaps they will determine they were unnecessary?

We can hope.

Ultimately, how many other conventions use them?

PAX Unplugged and NYCC both had them this past year. I feel like it is becoming more common.
