Yes of course it is. Obviously it is. Nobody has any illusions about that. It's understood.

Look at the number of unsold tickets at GHC. (Nearly half) Look at the forum posts from veteran volunteers who are struggling to find a time to get a run in. Look at the posts from a couple of established play groups who bought out runs but have been unable to fill all the spots.

There's a balance there somewhere between need for volunteers and large numbers of unsold tickets (not exactly the ideal business outcome) that I hope will eventually be found.

I think I remember them saying they sold out last year at pax south, and I can see if they don’t have time for us to play.
That being said I’m volunteering because I love the game, I want it to grow, and I want to play.
I can afford pax south without volunteering. I can go as a player only and may do that in future years. Last year they did ofset starts so that volunteers could get in at least 2 games. I would like them to do that again, but that is there call.

To be fair, a lot of those groups being unfilled is my fault.....

Only partially. I had way more than 10 on my interest list. But when volunteer schedules came out the list started shrinking rapidly.

Honestly, I have no idea what a fix would be. Given that tickets for GHC and Pax go on sale before GenCon and GHC respectively. It's more than unreasonable to ask Lori to juggle two volunteer lists at the same time.

This may not be practical but going forward they could wait until the week after gencon to put tickets on sale for GHC, wait until the week after GHC to sale pax south tickets. That would at least give them a little time to get the second volunteer separate if that’s the problem.

I do want to volunteer, and I do want to play. Last year at pax south I didn’t have to choose. I would like to be able to play at least 2 runs at pax south, it kind of makes it more worth while to go if I can play.

It's a tiny bit more laborious as I and probably you would also want our badges by then so we could purchase the tickets. They have done a buy your badge, get your tickets, and we'll re-reimburse you for the badge after you volunteer but I think that created a few "Issues"

Possibly but I don’t have any idea what the process is.

I've bought a GHC badge in order to be able to buy tickets each year. They have always refunded it after TD buys my GM badge.

I guess since we buy the tickets from TD directly we really don’t even need a badge until the con.

Unfortunately, there were some tightening of operating times for PAX South that made it very hard for us to have any staggered starts for full-time volunteers.

Please consider volunteering PART-TIME if you wish to play an adventure or two at PAX South. Thanks for your understanding. Perhaps next year we will be able to start sooner and end later. Security at PAX South is a bit different.

Thanks for the explanation, I’ll think on it for a few days before doing anything.
