The 1 room per 2 people thing is just to manage the reservation process on housing selection day. The hotels all have a max occupancy defined for each room (usually like 3 in a king room, 4 in a double/queen room, 6 in a suite). I don't think those limits tend to actually be enforced though.

A lot of places will limit the number of keys they give you, or the number that work. As in, if you give away all 4 initial keys, then the person with their name on the room goes to get a new one, one or more of the old keys will stop working.

Ultimately you can fit 6 to 8 in a room, but logistics get to be quite a pain after 4 imo.

We were getting 6 keys at the Hyatt and Hilton without an issue, but beyond that we had to use the buddy system for the last two guys. Thankfully they were brothers, so it wasn't an issue

Wow, 5 rooms is a lot! is the goup like 20-30 people?

Pretty sure you can only reserve 1 room per time slot, but I've never tried to reserve more, so can't say for certain

I've lost count, but there are at least 25 people in our group. Only 22 have responded so far with their lottery time. There are 2 of us with times within the first hour and 4 or 5 people have times between 2 and 3pm. A couple of people already have rooms either outside of the block or as companion of VIG. So if you see a caravan of people coming down I65 from Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon, there's a good chance it's us.

The sad thing is that there used to be 11 or 12 within our group that ran TD each year. But as it got harder to get a full slot and prices kept going up more and more people decided to spend their time/money elsewhere. I think 3 years ago it was down to 6 or 7 that did TD, 2 years ago it was down to only 3 and last year it was just me. Although a few make up for it by going to GHC.

We have 1:45, 2:15, and 4:59, so really hoping there are still downtown rooms left at 1:45. Sigh. We got lucky in 2014 and 2015, but have had pretty lousy lottery experiences since then.

If you're ok with 1 king bed, you will definitely get a downtown room at 145.

The 2 double bed rooms may be gone by then.

Our group might end up renting a house that would fit all of us (10 if everyone can come), but we'll take our shot at the lottery tomorrow. We did a house about 25 minutes away from the convention center and purchased a couple of parking passes last year, but the owners raised their price significantly this year, making it a less attractive option.

I was reading something similar. I hope everyone got a room! We won't get one in the block, but my friend did get us a room at the Westin out of block we'll be happy with. :)
