Chris,

The age minimum for a True Dungeon event is 13. We do make exceptions to that if a group has the entire run of 10 tickets and all people are aware and ok with under 13-YO players, but we do NOT recommend that you join a group without having that set up ahead of time.

It seems you're joining in this group with "strangers" so there could be a problem with having a player under the age of 13. All players that are under 18 are required to have a parent/guardian sign the waiver for them, but we do ask that no players under the age of 13 play in a "mixed" group.

Fyi, i returned my ticket for this event. Strictly a scheduling decision: when moongate combat opened up at 9am, i bought in for that, and wasnt looking to run this combat again. Good luck and hopefully i will see all of you around at origins.

Not a judgment, just a fact: I thought the age limit was in the event description, but it’s definitely in the permission/waiver that all players (or their parent/guardian) must sign before playing. But I know those things are a wall of text, and rare is the person who has actually read it.

That said, your son sounds cool and, if I were on the run, I would not object. I hope everything works out, but Lori isn’t saying anything new.

He is an active participant (XP to level 4) and has played Moongate Maze twice. I don’t expect this kid will hold the party back.

If the others in this group have an issue, please let me know so we can figure out something else to do.

Here's the rule from the Players Handbook...

PHB, page 53:
Age Restriction
To play a True Dungeon adventure, one must be at least 13 years old. Each person on the run must have a ticket and wristband. Non-ticketed "observers" are not permitted without written permission from an Executive Director. Please do not bring young children or infants with you on your adventure.

Chris McKay wrote: No problem. We weren’t trying to violate any rules or disrupt a serious group. There was not an event description for Origins because True Dungeon tickets were booked directly. I also did not realize there was a Players Handbook – we’ve just shown up to play in the past. I reached out on this forum because this is the first time our selected slot included so many experienced players planning it.

Good luck to the team. I’ve refunded our two tickets for this run.

No worries. While the Gen Con ticket website clearly states the minimum age required to play, it's not as readily visible on the others.

One of my sons turns 13 this year, just in time for Gamehole Con, and he is very psyched for his first runs. Hopefully your son enjoyed his sneak-peaks into the future.

Not to detract from your actual thread of organizing a party, but at GHC 2017, no one had a problem with my sons playing and they were ages 6 and 8. (it was combat and the tickets were purchased right before, so they would have gone empty. Not sure if that makes a difference or not).

The saddest part about this is that if you just showed up without knowing the rule, everything probably would have been fine.

If you would still like to figure out a way to play, you could try...
1. Finding a group who has all 10 tickets and if they are happy to have an under-13 player, you are good.
2. Gamble on the friday 9am run. Dont buy the tickets yet, just show up and see if there is anyone else there. Currently, i am the only ticket bought for 9am on friday (and 9:12 is empty). If no one else joins, you can buy in at the last minute and the three of us can take on the dungeon.

The thing is, those players might have had a problem with it but probably didn't want to cause a scene. Like many things in life, TD is not made for children. Many of us have children, and this is a bit of a respite from being mom or dad so being forced to do it for someone else's chidren during a game is not cool.

I can assure you, it would not have been fine. I ran with a child at Gamehole Con last year thinking it would be fine...and it wasn't. After that experience, I will not run with anyone under 13 years old again.

The rule is there for a reason, and I will embrace it's enforcement. I also don't want Jeff to have to start second guessing his content choices because a bunch of children are playing.

Moongate was fun. I enjoyed the run with all of you and hope to get to play with you again next year.
