We're working on a single-page introductory sheet to give to brand new players. It is not intended to dive into the minutiae of TD's rules. We just want something that can give them enough info so they don't feel completely clueless.

I would be grateful if you would check it out and let me know what should be altered. Just remember, it is imperative that all this information fit on one side of an 8½×11 sheet of paper. To that end:
  1. Keep it VERY broad!
no corner-cases, no tiny details, etc.
  2. If you want to add something, you must also suggest a deletion.
(A word or two here and there may be exempt, depending on how the paragraph breaks.)

Paragraph 1 could be shortened to this:

This sheet is for brand new players who want a quick overview of TD's basic mechanics. If you'd like a deeper look into the rules, read the Player's Handbook: truedungeon.com/files/PHB.pdf

Edit

Are the unaltered starting hit points still highlighted / marked on the character card? If so, should it be mentioned?

yes

What do you feel is less important than mentioning the starting HP highlights and should be excised to make room for it?

Probably not enough room, but it would be nice if there were a pic of the whole shuffleboard combat mechanism. Maybe something in the background? Less words, more pics!

My rewrite of the first paragraph removes 10 words (35 characters). Use that, and change the first section of the "Prep your Card" section to this:

After picking a class, note your starting Hit Points (HP) shown in the upper right, and highlighted on the sides of the card.

This adds 26 characters and 5 words.

Net my changes still free up 9 characters and 5 words.

"Take one of the provided lights and clip that to the
TOP of your class card."

This could ensure that if they pull on the light without pulling on the plastic directly, they're pulling down on the character card instead of down and off the card. Could result in fewer lost player lights.

The E.g. 's could also likely be replaced with parenthesis to save a bit of space.

First, I think this is a great idea. However, on first blush, it's really dense. If I was a new player and someone told me to read this, I might be turned off.

My suggestion to make it less dense, delete some items not worthy of this one-sheet. I've made some suggestions. I've PM'd you a link of the deletions I suggest.

Thats the way most people do it. But not all. Some use it in place of one of the paper clips. Some clip it to the bottom.

Should the equipment paragraph have a sentence explaining that GP tokens are (usually) not used in the dungeon, but other players might trade equipment for them? "What is GP for?" is a common question I hear from new players in the coaching room.

Places I think you could save a bit of room, independent of the above:

- Move the combat class list to the right column, use it as the header for the "combat sliding" paragraph. Remove the spellcasting classes list entirely - it duplicates the list above the "skill tests" paragraph. Put a sentence like "See the right column for general concepts" where the lists are now.

- The combat sliding paragraph can be shortened. The mention of monk and ranger dual-sliding can go away; the information is available on the monk/ranger card, and it basically reads "here's something we're not telling you about." With the addition of the weapon token image, describing one in text doesn't seem necessary.

The combat table has a silhouette of the monster you’re fighting, divided into numbered sections. Place your weapon token in the puck that corresponds to your class. Stand at the far side of the combat table opposite the monster and slide your puck toward the monster’s silhouette. Aim for the highest numbers. Pucks will get bumped; their final resting spot is what counts. Once everyone has slid their puck, the Dungeon Master (DM) determines which attacks hit the monster, based on the stats recorded by the coach on the party card.

The end of the sentence starting with "Then proceed to the coaching room" could be cleaned up a bit more. It could end with either:

on your wristband, e.g., :00, :13, :51.

or

on your wristband (:00, :13, :51, etc.).

Either option would eliminate a few characters.

Under prep card , it says to have the text with red side showing in the front.
Aren’t class cards double sided with 4th on one side and 5th on the other?

After coaching for 24 min head to the training room for 12 .
Doesn’t the trainer to get them?

Yes
The red side is 4th-level and should be facing out. The purple side is 5th-level and should be toward their body.

jon wrote: Doesn’t the trainer to get them?

Not always. Sometimes a coach or assistant directs them to the training room, sometimes a trainer comes to fetch them from the training room. I'm also not certain that's a level of granularity that needs to be dealt with in a bare-bones info sheet.
