I would have as well, and furthermore, I would submit that is how I feel it *should* work as it doesnt make sense that monsters can evade guard because of taunt. The idea of guard is to have the monster attack the Paladin who is protecting the taunting character.

Yeah, that rule simply doesnt make sense. Every other rule makes me think guard should work. That lone rule makes it work non-intuitive.
The only reason i can think of for taunt to override guard is that TD doesnt want someone using taunt to have their fun unwillingly stolen by the paladin. But if that is the case, just make guard only work if the target is willing.

I just like the visual of the dwarf fighter taunting while hiding behind the Paladin.

"come and get me you pansy" and then hiding behind the Paladin.
