My Hammer fell into the void with a bunch of others. Chandler had them all in his pocket. (That was the point I checked out, but that’s another story.) I knew he was handing me back the wrong one because mine had a strip of Mongo’s tape on it.

This RFID thing makes me nervous. Things move around a lot, and the tech stuff in the dungeons tends get wonky. I’m thinking of two rooms in N1 that were fun when they worked right, and frustrating AF when they didn’t. And they seemed much simpler than some things being proposed.

I’d rather have reliable mediocre effects than fragile awesome ones.

Worst case for an RFID based crafted gear prop, if the scanner fails, the GM just hands them the telescope of whatever the old fashioned way. So long as we keep manual workarounds in mind it shouldn't cause to much trouble.

I had an idea to create a magnetized player board that could be hung on a wall near the combat table. There would be a section for each class. I could store tokens on here during combat in order to help track things, like for example if a weapon was lost it would go into your slot on the board until the end of the combat. Or if you drank a Potion Bull's Strength, it could go on your section. There could be a magnet to indicate who the paladin is guarding. You could also put non-returning thrown weapons up there, the active Bard instrument, etc.

One day I still want to make it and try it out for myself in Grind, but that hasn't happened yet. In 2019 I'll be driving to GenCon so perhaps I'll try it out then.

My online token shop: www.tdtavern.com

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

I agree, but instead of reissuing 5th level tokens, they could leave them as they are and issue 6th level Treasure Enhancing tokens instead.

At that point why not just issue a scannable token that just ties back to the player account and tells us their level, and any associated bonuses via lookup.

QRC might be better, or at least cheaper and more reliable

How about an RFID with an AI that just plays the game for you so you can enjoy other convention activities!

If I had that, I'd rig it to cover my coaching shifts so I could play more. :P
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
