I run stein as well and really I want the whetstone so i have an easier alt build or as others have put it i can loan out a rare weapon vs my only spare UR weapon to someone.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Brad Mortensen wrote: I think a lot of people discount the pride in making a transmute on their own.

Forcing newbies to make their first transmute by buying their bits from others takes that away. At the risk of being crude, it’s like losing your virginity to a prostitute.

But maybe I’m just idealistic.

The good news for newbies is that the coming bit shortage will mean you can probably trade one bit for two or more Tier 1 goods.

I guess that depends on what you mean by "on their own". After all, in a completely anti-social vacuum where they are unwilling to interact with other players to trade tokens at all and rely only on packs and pulls, then I could see how it might be a pain to put together the few specific trade goods for this recipe.

Implausibly extreme scenario aside, I can understand the general sentiment of not wanting to spend additional cash to buy the things they need. To that, I would just suggest they could use their completion token, (possible) rogue box pulls, "free" 5-6 token packs worth of tokens and the other 77.17% of their treasure pulls to trade for whatever else they need. The main idea in bringing up how cheap the trade goods they require are is largely as reference point for how easy it should be to acquire them- either by cash or by trading.

I know it's almost certainly to late to do anything about it, but after creating all the starter builds, I would like to make another comment on the charm of treasure boosting. +1 treasure is great, but it is going to be obsolete almost the instant someone decides they want to boost treasure. If they are going to buy one nugget, I almost guarantee they will get a second, making the charm useless (my party has a silver and gold nugget for each player, and can't just the charm).

If it's going to be this limited, it should probably only be 1 monster bit to land the cost around $15.

If it's going to be this expensive, it shouldn't be obsolete so quickly.

ISGN still works with treasure boosting. Yes you can’t use it with 2 TEs but it’s still a solid token either way.
Also I bet most people that buy one will not have a problem reselling it.

Let's say the charm lands at $45. You have a friend that has done one of each run, loves TD, andis asking what to buy. for $50 you can recommend crown of treasure finding + charm of treasure finding, or spend $60 for lenses of fortune + charm... Or just recommed a gold nugget which uses more friendly slots and doesn't expire.

Now, you could say, get the gold nugget plus charm... But at that point, the better Purchase is a silver nugget.

I'm planning on removing the charm from my new player recommendations because it just seems to be a poor purchase. If it were $15 it would be a different story. If it added 1 and would work with all 3 nuggets, it would be worth $45. I'm just not seeing value now.

One thought was that these would change hands often, probably for comparable prices. Once someone had enough TE tokens that they couldn't use this anymore, they would trade or sell it to someone else, who would eventually do the same.

The cost still makes a difference here. For 50 or 60, not only are you half way to a nugget, but then you have to mess with selling it shortly after you buy it. And you likely won't be able to trade it in part of a ur treasure booster. If it were charm of health cost, I think that would be a better Argument

No point in arguing about recipes that were set months ago and won’t be changing.

Yep! Not sure if I can catch the train or not, it's my first time through a cycle. Until TD HQ starts accepting transmutes, it seemed possible that it could be changed, but maybe not.

Is anyone selling these for 45, 50 or 60 yet? If you and most others that would buy them don’t think they are worth those prices then I think it is unlikely they will stay at those prices. With very little searching i was able to find all the components for under $40. So they may be priced more than that but anyone that wants one (or more than one) should be able to get them under that if they look. I plan on making a few just because they are from ingredients that i have extra of. My limiting factor was the number of charms i got in my order.
