If you have room for a Bard, I might be up for it. Nightmare makes me nervous since I'm at a chewy 22 AC to start the room (it does go up a bit from there after combat begins) and it's my understanding Bards get hit hard at that difficulty.

I'm a ranged build and got a decent support strategy in place (Charm of Heroism, Lyre of Lore, Widseth's) to help the group while also working to get my bonus high enough to hit the creature, not crit. For my own safety's sake I'd feel better with a couple other purples that I can't afford quite yet, but I might be close to a NM run with some token lending help. I'd likely hide behind a rock and shoot 'em with my crossbow from afar, though. Don't want the monster getting up in my face. :)

In TD, they generally don't let you get out of reach of the monster unless you're being guarded by the Paladin. Usually, that guarding goes to a wizard.
You've got the last spot if you want it. :)
I can help boost your AC. I play Bard sometimes as well. If you'd like, I can PM you my build's stats and see if you like it, although my design leans to Melee rather than Ranged. Alternatively, you can PM me a "wish list" of what you'd like to equip, and I can let you know what I can lend.

Oooo, we have all five casters. :)
Do we have willingness to try this as a cabal run?
I can provide bracers and gloves.

Khalek and Lode, feel free to discuss between you who would prefer which wizard.

The Bard is effective with mix trait from fighter and caster while all the while is being beneficial as group effect from 3 different level increase to 5th level. First the important thing you need to learn in the monster lore for the 1st round of combat to get the Achilles Heel on the monster that your group use to explored for a quick take down. Then the usefulness of UR is the Briano's Blessed Bodhran, which I think that Quip has in collection. What it is so because the Bard can use any and all kind of scroll from Arcane, Divine and All, this is actually for the basic offensive, defensive and importantly healing. Some of the rare scroll for offensive has automatic hit of +8 to +12 to damage and the same rare are good as defensive spell like increase AC to yourself and other players in your group. While all the while has heavy damage spell to cast by the Divine and Arcane of your group and you could slide back to tend to the wounded player with healing scroll with addition few other tokens increase it further than the normal healing. While all the while use UR is continual playing that drum for that reason for the group benefit receive from this UR drum. The last thing is that if you are new to bard character, the DM usually demand that you actually sing a song for role-playing and for that there a forumite username by Widseth that retired from TD, but left 3x song on the Off-Topic area of the forum because he is the master Bard of all Bard. If you are nervous in of front of people, then recording yourself sing on recorder maybe be allow, but need to confirm it, to be official.

Side note: If you have the Rod of Seven Parts to claim one use per run per year. It will it will guarantee for automatic 3x treasure stamp with little help by cleric 5th level as resurge spell since this maybe your first run on Thursday morning because the maximum is 2x treasure stamp and the 1x from the cleric of 5th level resurge spell.

To be little more efficiency from playing D&D as most monster are known for different weakness and there are spells that apply toward the monster weakness quite well. Walla, Now you are a pro in Bard.

I hope you don't mind, Quip, if I gave a helpful suggesting for your newly acquire player and we are best friend, quip and me and also believe me you are in good hands with him.

Thanks, Eversuede. That's a lot of good information on playing the Bard. :)

You are welcome and I got another cheap sheet on the Paladin, where I use to make him into Healing Mass Machine and the same times being a human armor tank in nightmare mode, then ruling got change. Now I got to retweet and reform the tokens combination again for improve unique build.

Re: Thurs, 11:50am, Sable Combat, full? 8 years 10 months ago #11

I think I'll go with Elf so there is less sliding. I do have Cabal Bracelets already. The gloves' utility will depend on if there is more than one monster at a time. I haven't seen this be an issue outside of grind.

I also have 3 might pieces so I will be level 5. I have some other items via transmute that are ready to go. Let me know if there's anything in particular I should use or get.

Hooray! Here's hoping the slot goes off and ends on-time, since I'll be turning around and going back in with Kirk for Sable puzzle right after this one! :)

Eversuede - That is a lot of useful info! I figured out the Lyre of Lore last year and built around it. I'm not a fan of Briano's as it only lets you use your spells and not your scrolls. To get the scrolls off as a Bard you'd want a Shield of the Scholar, but it would only work if you're melee. Being a ranged build the Shield of the Scholar is useless for my strategy.

As for performing in front of a group, I've got over a decade of improv comedy performance experience and a degree in theatre. No problems there. :) The groups I ran with last year loved what I came up with on the fly, and the DM's were all highly entertained.

I do not have a Rod of Seven Parts, but someone is going to let me borrow one in another run. I'm going to look that all over and see how it will affect my build and strategy. Auto treasure stamps are a definite plus. :)

Edit: I wouldn't be able to use it for this run. Just realized how that sounds. So for this run, I wouldn't have a Rod of Seven Parts unless someone here let me borrow one. I'm not asking to, though. That's a mighty big valuable token there! /edit

I have plenty of consumables on hand, both damaging and healing, and feel confident in a Hardcore run. Most of my wishlist is stuff that I feel ashamed to ask to borrow, only due to their rarity and value. For example, I have an Amulet of Treasure Finding, my only treasure enhancement token. My eventual ideal build would include a Charm Necklace and a Charm of Avarice. I don't see that becoming a reality before GenCon this year, But I hope to one day be able to make that combo happen on my own.

My strategy runs Lyre of Lore for Bardsong, Lore check, then Belt of Retrieval for a Dex potion. Next round, switch to Widseth's for free, Bardsong while attacking with +1 ammo. Third round, Pouch of Tulz for oil/potion for free as needed, attack again with +1 ammo. I hope to eventually add a Quiver of Anointment to allow me to apply two oils for added damage. I'm not trying to crit, just get my attack bonus as high as possible so I can consistently hit with a lower number for added damage in combo with oils and Bardsong. I've got a Charm of Heroism so I'm providing +2/+4 for attack and damage on either instrument.

If just four of the party hit the thing, that's 16 extra damage that I caused from my Bardsong. I like that. :)
