In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

Ah, that's probably it.

It's embarrassing how long it took my group to figure that one out the first time we met it... :/

The third room of Lycan Combat, there was a creature that grabbed someone and held them and you had to free them without hitting them or the center of the monster (it would damage your ally). That was the puppet vine.

The sad thing is that I did have the Emerald Cube IS which would prevent me from being held, and never thought to speak up and use it to free myself from the vines.

The one time I did the room that was funny was when the puppet vine grabbed the druid NPC instead of one of the party memebers.
You don't have to outrun the monster, just the guy next to you - The buddy system.

For what its worth I had free action on the entire party and was told it wouldn't work to free yourself. That might have been a GM experience issue though.

Well I had the Emerald Cube on and the GM instructed the monster to grab someone else. The next time I went through (same GM) the entire party had the Emerald Cube on and the GM improvised and said the Puppet Vine grabs the Dryad and if the Dryad gets hit we all take damage. We all thought he did a wonderful job improvising and dispatched the Puppet Vine quickly.

Kudos to the GM for thinking outside the box while making sure the party could use their equipment and still have a good time.

Unless that's in the module (and even then) I'm not sure how I feel about the dryad thing. Seems like another case of why even have the items, especially bad IMO since the cube was made commonly available this year seemingly to work in the outside dungeon (likely with that very room in mind). I don't mind improvisation or even inconsistency but overriding common in print items like that seems like it may just create a bad impression of the event.
