TOPIC: What would be an even trade for these two items?

Re: What would be an even trade for these two items? 14 years 11 months ago #13
So is a Red Elixir of Life worth less than the Purple Elixir of Life? How about a 2004 vs. a 2005b, or a 2005a vs. a 2005b of the same item?

Objectively, only a market-determined price can really tell you. (And a woody Elixir recently sold really well on Ebay.) Beyond that, it depends on what someone is looking for. I think Henwy was looking to trade a woody Elixir (plus something) for a chippie Elixir, since (I think) Henwy prefers the chips, and/or needed a chippie Elixir for his collection. Other collectors would probably trade a chippie plus a premium to get the older woody Elixirs, especially 2004 or 2005a. I think the change from Red to Purple in that case had little impact, since the effect remained exactly the same.

That gets back to what I was saying, about different tokens being worth different amounts to different people. There are definitely people out there that like to get the older tokens (at least until they have a set complete), while there are other people out there that greatly prefer the Chip tokens and would gladly trade their woodie tokens for comparable Chip tokens. Get these two people together, and you get a very even trade where both parties are getting tokens in trade that they value more than the ones they traded away.

To me, a 2006 Red Elixir of Life is worth less than a Purple Elixir of Life, but a 2003 Red Elixir of Life would be worth more than a Purple Elixir of Life. And I'm sure someone else would have very different valuations.

I will mention that in over a year and a half I never did find anyone willing to swap elixers

What year is your woody Elixir, Henwy?

I think I'm with Mike Steele - looking for 2003-2005a woody Elixirs, and would gladly trade a Purp Elixir, but have the '05b and '06 woody Elixirs for the collection, so no need to trade for those.
It's a shame that Douglas is no longer as active. I thought the old Price Guide was quite helpful in preventing newbies from getting "ripped off."

True, although I never agreed with forcing the Rare / 2 Uncommon / 7 Common prices to equal $10 (or $8, or whatever he calculated the average cost of a 10 pack was). But, it did give a common starting point, and I really liked that it helped the brand new players from getting ripped off (if they saw it).

Thanks everyone for your input and advice. It helped out. I'm thinking i may have to make a $250 purchase and pick the tinkering tool =D. All I really have is gold and gems. I'm thinking of the auction, may be my best bet. Somebody got the finger, I looking for the head of a certain Flayer of Minds =D The only purple I have is the one I found playing a rogue my first time. It involved A floating stick and atomb/ memorial. The purple was a +2 Great sword, my first loot. After that, rogue all the way. I also remember Shadows suck as much in TD as it does in D&D. UNdeaD very bad, very bad. LOOT GOOD. Thanks again Guys and Lady of Greyhawk.
