TOPIC: What's Rarer: Ooze or Feather?

Just curious what everyone thinks is rarer: the Mind Flayer Ooze or the Outsider Feather.<br /><br />During my runs, I managed to pull something like 4 Stirge Spittles and 4 Outsider Feathers (but no Mind Flayer Oozes). Tried trading around but everyone else I found also had lots of Spittles and Feathers but no Oozes.<br /><br />During the last day I encountered several people who had tons of Oozes but no Feathers and they seemed to think that the Feathers were the hottest new ingredient.<br /><br /><br /><br />The Stirge room was certainly beatable (though it was challenging on Nightmare where the Stirges took 2 hits to kill and did 4 points of automatic damage each round). Plus, there was sometimes the opportunity to get a second treasure pull in that room, so I do think that Stirge Spittle is the most abundant 2008 ingredient.<br /><br />The Mind Flayer was easy on normal difficulty (just 60 HP I think) but he was extremely hard on Nightmare with 100 HP. I agree with Mock26 that, at least on Hardcore, the Mind Flayer encounter was the most difficult. I knew of several groups who couldn't kill him in time (since only one player could melee and several were often stunned). Plus lots of groups wasted too much time in the hallway. On the combat side (and especially Nightmare Combat), it was pretty hard to kill him and get his treasure, which is why I thought that the Ooze was the rarest ingredient.<br /><br />I actually found the Ogre/Giant to be quite easy, and in all my runs (including Nightmare) we dispatched him quite readily. I hear the puzzle side had an Armor Puzzle instead of encountering the Ogre. Maybe the puzzle was really hard which is why some people had difficulty finding feathers. Any thoughts?

I don't think one is more rare than the other, just matter of what people pulled out of the boxes.  From the sounds of things is that the Oozes were just sitting under more tokens.

The only reason I have less oozes than the other two is because our group fubar'ed the flayer the first time around. I came out with 2 less oozes, 1 more feather, and just the right amount of spittle.

I have a lot of Oozes.  :|

Seeing as incredibly few groups lost on the first room there were a total crap ton of Stirge Spittles flying around.  I used two of them for my Medallion of Greyhawk trade ins.  As for Ooze vs Slime, I got the impression that there were a heck of a lot more oozes as both sides had to face the Minflayer but only combat side got to fight the troll for Outsider Feathers, the Puzzle side had that Armor puzzle that stumped 95% of the groups.<br /><br />I was really lookin for feathers by day two.  Still need one, as a matter of fact.

I honestly don't think it mattered what box was in what room, as I pulled Oozes out of room 1.

My group did 2 runs (normal mode).  One combat and one puzzle.  We failed the armorer room and only got to pull form the room with stirges and the mind flayer.  In the combat round we got pulls from the stirge, mind flayer and the giant.  <br /><br />We got (all approximate):<br />2x stirge for each ooze/feather<br /><br />Which means (from my teams' runs):  There were about the same number of feathers as slimes but only half the number of oozes.<br /><br />Of course, it's all random.  Depends on your luck.<br /><br />Jim

Assuming the past shows some light on the future the 1C will be spittle, 2C will be Ooze and the 3C will be the Feather.  But you never know when the order will change.

My guess from two runs in which I sorted the treasure from my group of five and talking to a lot of other people at the con is that the ingredients were probably evenly deposited in the dungeon, and their location was not correlated to the monster they were associated with. By this I mean that any of the ingredients could have come up in any treasure pull. As people have noted in their expectations, as a touch of realism and consistency, it would perhaps be better to place the associated ingredient in the room with the same monster, e.g. spittle in stirge room. ooze in flayer room, feathers in angel room.

Things would make sense if they were done that way, but with the random distribution it makes them a little easier to get.  As it is I only got two Stirge Spittles, and a lot more of the other two.  Seems I will have some trading to do next year.  =D

I had less of the Stirge Spit overall then was sent a boon from a kind soul...now I am short 3 feathers from making 3 more sets.<br /><br />I thought Feathers were the most promenant at first, but that might have been because I pulled 3 from one box...happy dance!<br /><br />
