There are a fairly large number of terms and conditions required to do TD in the first place:

Obviously we have terms and conditions on the events themselves. These forums have terms and conditions, but you can’t access the forums without internet access, which has terms and conditions, as does your browser and the operating system it runs on. Furthermore, To obtain that access, you need either a non free device such as a PC or Zoom, or you would need to agree to terms and conditions of free access like a library PC.

While that already a decent list of terms and conditions, we aren’t anywhere near done! TD commerce software such as td.events has terms and conditions, Badge purchases for conventions, or terms and conditions for zoom.

The next tier is the terms and conditions needed for the credit/debit card that you need to buy a badge for the convention, and potentially 3rd party payment software such as PayPal. Your bank has terms and conditions if you write a check to buy event access or tokens from a seller, and the post office if you want to mail that check and / or tokens.

We aren’t done yet, because we have travel conditions too! These include the airline ticket you may need to travel to the convention, the hotel you may need for the convention, supplemental transportation such as car rental / Uber / Taxi / mass transit, and the structure the convention is held in.

Yeah, I don’t really see how discord is a bridge too far.

I feel that the confusion may be stemming from the fact that the official meta-puzzles (2020 Orb recipe and the new Dwarven rune alphabet) are being tracked by players on a fan-created discord server that originated specifically for that purpose. Being named True Dungeon Meta Puzzle Discussion while no similar thread exists on the official TD forum probably adds to this confusion.

So I will look into renaming the discord server to something less confusing and asking the boss if he’d consider making a forum thread here to track any updates to the official meta-puzzle.

Some time ago, Grunnel was given admin rights to the discord server and did a few silly riddles and contests to let fans win everything from tokens and magic worms to chunks of wood and old props destined for the dumpster.

Grunnel’s side missions are just for fun and open to all. But, being included on a “meta-puzzle” discord server gives a false sense that it’s some sort of official event to track. That is not the case.

As far as I know, no player has posted the new runic alphabet from the TD meta puzzle on the forums.

Discord, especially on a mobile device is easier to track and manage during my shenanigans than anything on the official forums. Especially you clowns that like to quote a quoted quote from someone who quoted someone. ;)

If anyone bothered to ask, they could find out that some of these missions have included a lot of coordination, trading, fund-raising and even blood donations to win silly gifts, trinkets or tokens from my/my brothers personal collection.

Giving this stuff away is in a small way, therapy for me while I pay tribute to my deceased brother and bestest Cleric ever! (Potion Re-Pete Healing was generously named for him by Jeff).

As a believer in the old adage “what’s goes around…” I hope to continue giving stuff away and welcoming new players into the fold for a long time. The next charity auction you see may just have an old token or two from me so bid high and do some good.

Just a reminder, but If you are seeking official news about anything TD related (like tokens or events), come here… not the fan-run sites like discord.

But, if you have some free time between virtual runs and want to try your hand at winning small plastic dragons or squeaky toys dressed at GibGub, come, join us on discord and be welcomed.

Just a follow up here, my intent with this post was not to ruin anyone's fun, I heard a gripe from a fellow player and wanted to see what other TD players had to stay about it. Maybe the fact that the discord was named after TD gave him the wrong idea, I don't know, I haven't talked to him since this weekend.

About a month ago over lunch I pitched a Token giveaway idea to MasterEd, we (or I should say Ed mostly), refined the idea and in it's current form it's a game/puzzle of sorts. Which is another reason I wanted people's thoughts.

For the record, I personally do not care if someone wants to give away their Tokens. Be it via puzzles or just handing them out or whatever. Not my place to say what people do with their stuff.

Meta puzzles are a treat for vets who run the dungeons that they have already ran or run them multiple times in a weekend for VTD.

Can someone post the link to join the discord in question here, or in some other appropriate place?

Or does it not work like that - does the invitee need to provide an email?

If there is anyone who is feeling left out, or upset that they missed out on some thing in Discord (which I am not a member of), but is open minded enough to get to know the TD community more:

Send me a PM with your address, and I'll send you something to brighten your day.

I would mention a few considerations to add nuance to the 'private people can do whatever they want with their tokens' position some people have expressed in this thread.

I'm am not trying to address legal rights in this note, or implying the things below are illegal. Instead, I'm sharing some advice based on my personal experience and discussion with TPTB, and/or other prior public statements or policies expressed by TPTB.

It is entirely possible that I misunderstood TPTB in the interactions I had, or that circumstances have changed, so take the below with a grain of salt.

That being said, I'd:

1. Avoid doing things that could be confused with an official TD program. For example, don't start your own token exchange program in the forums that uses the 'Transmute' terminology.

2. Avoid doing things that could be confused with gambling in the forums.

3. Not offer token builds for rent.

I shall never join a discussion group that does not recognize Francis, hallowed be his name!

Seriously though John - thank you for sharing your motivations, it's very nice.
