TOPIC: New Completion token: Belt of the brave

This is a bad Token. Too OP for a rare as many have pointed out. Start making Rares better then UR's and you've got lots of game design problems. And completion Tokens are a dime a dozen so there will be lots of these. Swing and a miss on this Token..

I try not to compare completion tokens to set tokens. If this fills runs at GHC or Origins (if that still exists), then it is good for TD. If it is for GC or a PAX, then I might have a different opinion.

Meh, I'm still 50/50 on if it really steps on Ogre Mage all that l much. For practical purposes, Ogre Mage provides the same bonus if you have odd STR and counts towards thrown/mighty weapons.

Plus, Ogre Mage comes right to my door from stuff I already have. If this is in-person convention only, that's travel + hotel + badge + time off I don't have to spend.

The thing that bothers me the most is that ogre mage is still being transmuted and that it's a 4 star and doesn't technically stack (without big burn)....the ioun stone stacked....the upcoming charm stacks with banshee, etc....I may have though twice about the 8 total belts I've transmuted (for me and loaner builds), had I known it would be eclipsed by a rare completion. hindsight is 20/20. I had planned on sending 1 more in....and now I will not, so there is that. That, overall, is where I agree it sets a rough precedent. I LOVE all the solid rares coming out to help facilitate new players. I HOPE if this happens in IRL dungeons, somehow, that players are made aware of how good it is...I would hate to see a new player get rid of it willy nilly. I know I'd let my pugs know if I were in them.

Going forward, I will NOT be doing any transmuting (except for treasure enhancers and special event enablers) before at least October of the year the recipe expires. Gives me more time to figure out if the transmutes I am considering will be eclipsed by the next token set and a waste of my resources.

They may not have realized this before printing, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet.

I for one welcome this new belt, because it means I will advocate in 2022 for it to be reprinted in the set as a rare in packs using the Amulet of Shock precedent

Honestly I'm sad to say it but I've given up token design to some degree. Anything that does not get workshopped has a good chance of being OP, anything that does has a good chance of ending up like the mage discussion.

I just try to accept that rarity doesnt mean anything, spend what I want to spend, and try not to feel dumb for buying an UR (+2 melee dmg ioun, sneak attack anything bracers most recently) that will likely be matched pretty closely by a rare the next year.

And before anyone "but actuallies" me, I know they are not "exactly " the same but they feel that way.

Anyway I dont envy Jeff and Co having to design in this space.

This year also gets a bit of a pass. I'm ok with TD making OP competition tokens to keep up sales and stay in business until conventions are a thing again.

The belt could also be a volunteer token for all we know. Or the competition token for the asteral event. Or anything else special, let's not jump to conclusions. I still have faith Jeff will do what's best for the game he created.

It could get changed to a volunter token, but is currently listed as a completion token.

Even though the token development process can be painful, maybe it would be helpful to get some community feedback on the completion/participation tokens before they are finalized, in order to at the least spot the ones that are either extremely overpowered or underpowered. This one does seem UR+ power level. Although that seems appropriate if it were for the Cavadar Special Event. If it's for a regular Dungeon run, I hope it's at GENCON (or maybe a special Carbondale event) so we'll be able to get some.

If this was the Astral completion I'd be ok with it. I'd also be ok with the Belt getting swapped with the rare volunteer +3hp Ioun stone. The rare +3hp Ioun stone would still make a powerful completion, and the volunteers would get the belt which people will buy way more over the Ioun stone.

Very late here, can we add a -2 will save, since there so Brave. Just try to stop this thing from being so OP.
