TOPIC: New player, too many tokens

New player, too many tokens 4 years 3 months ago #1

Hello all,

I seek aid and assistance because I have many a token and not sure exactly what to do with them all. Canadian so slightly harder to do trades. Mostly I would like to play wizard or elf wizard but am kinda open to ranger bard druid possibly rogue? I'm not really sure. I played a single game with someones loaner build and all my friends donated their tokens to me because I loved playing so much and they were fine with just doing loaner builds.. Basically new player assistance please help lol

should I just list my entire token collection here or... how does one get aid? i have about 81 tokens not attached to the lower build

this is the character I have built so far to attempt to play. I am interested in attending Gamehole Con this year so I have a few months to make this work.

Welcome!

Unfortunately in meeting on phone, so I can’t link but Endgame has done several “starter” builds that are very good. I’ll link later if someone else doesn’t do so.

Hopefully these can help you evaluate you current tokens and give ideas on what to aim for next.

No such things about too many tokens!

I really enjoy digging through tokens and seeing their interactions, but I understand that's not everybody. However, if this interests you, here's my methodology:

Sort tokens by slot (e.g., neck, hands, etc.)
Determine what you like to play (rogue, druid, etc.)
Determine which tokens you have that are the "best" for each slot for the character you want to play.
*keep track of any interactions that may arise (e.g., a bracelet that provides +1 to hit if you're using a dirk), these aren't as easily seen.

Your build is really good start! Next is to determine how, if any, you want to add to it (where are you going to get tokens). This year's 2020 tokens are some of the best I have ever seen. The rare ones are listed here, but you can change the filters to see all of them: tokendb 2020 rares

Two ways to go about adding to your collection: actively seeking out trades and purchases, or getting new tokens in packs when you play. Welcome to the addiction!

Hi Ace, welcome to the forum! For your low-grade tokens: C, U, and low grade Rs, you’ll likely save them until you collect enough to transmute them into Trade Goods. You can find more information Here. You probably won’t have enough to transmute anything at this point, but eventually you’ll save up enough for really powerful items. You should, however, hang on to anything that looks useful to you or one of your friends who might play with you.

As someone who was in your shoes not too long ago, I completely sympathize with the too many tokens conundrum! I had a bunch of random packs from playing through many years, but not a lot of focus. As noted above, you'll want to start to sort/save tokens you don't use for transmutes , which is one of the more unique aspects of this already unique game. Many common and uncommon tokens end up getting traded to upgrade gear.

I just want to second that this year's rare set is simply incredible. There's a lot of good stuff.

A side note to the "actively seeking purchases" bit: watch these forums for token auctions, where people split the cost of an $8k token order among a bunch of bidders. Most of them just opt to auction off the "super condensed" option, but you'll occasionally see auctions pop up for the Condensed option that include bags of rares and uncommons. The rare bags especially can help jump start a group's equipment stash with a lot of very solid tokens.

thanks so much for all the replies so far. I have written up my list of all my extra tokens and sorted them by rarity I just dunno what's really worth trading and haven't found the transmute list. I don't have the most money for tokens as of yet because I want to dump all my money into playing runs. So i am hoping my list will be decent enough for trading to get more tokens that will be useful to me. should i just dump my list somewhere so ppl can assist in whats good/whats worth trading or should i use that tokenb website n kinda figure it all out myself. I know my class is one of the lesser picked so i' not worried about playing PUG's which is mostly where i'll be because although i have some friends who play everyone is much higher level and i want to stand on my own.

Welcome.

Here are a few helpful links:

Transmutation (previously linked by Basic Braining):

www.truedungeon.com/transmuted/

Swapmeet App for Token Trading:

truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=602&id=249771

I also second Lequinan's reference to the Uncommonly Good Tokens Thread:

truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=5&id=248885#358117

With few exceptions (mainly tokens received only in the treasure box or tokens received only for completion of a run), recent Common/Uncommons are not worth trading by mail due to their low value. Even most rares fall into this category.

If you are wondering what a particular C/U/R token may be worth, a good place to start would be to look it up on Trent Tokens.

www.trenttokens.com/

Another clue to if your token is worth trading is to put it in the Swapmeet app and see if anyone is looking for it. If not, that's a sign demand for that token may be low.

As a new player, unless you drew something special, the tokens you are most likely to have that are worth trading would be monster parts and tokens which are worth gold pieces.

Thank you,

Dan White

If you just want to post the list of 81 extra tokens here in this thread, I'm sure you'll get a lot of help in figuring out which are worth trading/selling and which are probably best saved for transmuting. It's a very helpful community. :)

This is the bane of tokens. You'll need a place to stash them (you don't need to take them to cons, just hold them until you get enough to transmute to the trade good, typically 25 of each type). I put mine in ziploc bags and stash them in a bucket in the basement. After cons, I then reassess to see if I can transmute any.

Going through your list, here's what I'll keep (and even these you don't need to bring to cons):
Devilward amulet (this is a treasure box exclusive)
Bead unseen vision (never know when invisible monsters might pop up)
Earcuff of the light x2 (completion tokens, and good ones at that)
Your wands might be worth something to a spellcaster, especially the rare ones
swamp hag venom (worth the most for transmutes, ~$5-10)
100gp jade sculpture
bead firehold
50gp dinking horn
1300gp (roughly speaking, 1000 gp is ~$15)

Everything else can be transmuted down to the trade goods (imo). If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I'm pretty sure Chatm of the Faithful transmutes to the charm of treasure boosting. Could be a worthwhile thing to look into for you.
