You have to swallow the token to reveal the clue.

It's worth noting that a moderate number of phones DO NOT support the communication required to validate tokens. So if you install the program and can't scan your tokens that could be why

If you do not have the hardware to read the tag, Google Play or iTunes will not allow you to install the app. Even if they did, the app will tell you that the hardware is not present. So lack of hardware cannot be mistaken for not being able to scan a token that does not have a tag.

Yep, new phone (2020 model) doesn't support NFC despite being a midrange handset. My previous mid range phone did go figure. It really isn't all that common on much besides flagships or niche models these days.

Last in person event this was not a part of the program. I was able to install it and got no failure notice. If that's been changed that's a good change

You may also need to enable NFC on your phone, was turned off on mine.

That said Im still having trouble getting it to work on my note8 and 9, I only have one token to scan though so it might just be that chip misbehaving. It installs and opens but no scan.
