TOPIC: Beware of USPS Shipments

Beware of USPS Shipments 5 years 2 weeks ago #1

After talk in the Charm of Avarice v3 thread, I wanted to post a picture of the box I received in mail yesterday from USPS. I made this transmute and sent in my tokens on 3/1, the first day the new transmutes went live.

See the attachments for the pictures. The box was utterly destroyed and still delivered. I was very nervous that my 2x Kilt of Dungeonbane was in jeopardy. But because of TD's excellent packaging, my tokens were still in the box. The amount of tape used on these boxes is probably the only thing that saved the shipment.

I just wanted to post this to warn people this is how USPS can handle packages. To be fair, this is the first time in about 7 years of being at my house that USPS has handled a package like this. I have also received about 4-5 shipments from TD before this with no issues.

This is exactly why I won't be sending my CoAs in the mail to transmute. Even if you send them in with full insurance if they are damaged on return I don't think you have a lot of recourse. And the insurance for a CoA is around $20/30 each. I will be transmuting mine at Origins.

Once again, big props to TD for their reinforced shipping techniques. I still have confidence to do any purchase or transmute from them in the future. I just will be cautions of what my acceptable risk level is from my local USPS Post Office.

That box really does look bad. Glad to see that the Kilts arrived OK. Things like this is why I also plan to make the CoA change at Origins.

I suspect that if the bigger tokens had been destroyed or lost in shipment and you showed the pics to Jeff and crew, they would replace what was lost (especially for long term customers). With the rfid chips, the COAs would be the easiest to replace since they are unique and the old lost one could be remived from the database. I suspect this will be the future of all the higher value tokens in the future (possibly all URs and up depending on costs).

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about losing tens of thousands of dollars worth of tokens while travelling if we could just pay a nominal replacement fee and have new ones shipped to us?

Good to see your tokens arrived. I laugh at the amount of packaging tape sometimes - this is apparently why that is done :)

Yes Jeff will replace tokens missing from box if the box was not properly sealed to ship. He did that for me a few years ago when my box showed up destroyed and missing some of the URs and Rares.

2x Kilts are roughly the same value as 1x CoA.

Weren't you worried about the kilts?

Honestly it’s because it wouldn’t have been a big loss. I don’t even have a second Eldritch item. The CoAS are much more valuable to me for runs that I accepted the risk of losing the Kilts.

But you’re right they are still probably too expensive to risk, especially after this shipment.
