TOPIC: Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts

Re: Update on Completed Rod of Seven Parts 10 years 3 months ago #25

If the individual rod part powers are gone and not replaced by a better in game statistical improvement, many people will decide not to turn it in and those with rod parts but not a complete rod do better in some ways than those that completed the rod. That would be a bad move on TD's part. I seriously doubt that will be the decision.

I would be happy with the carryover of the rod parts individual bonuses and the once per year boon ability. Along with it being an Eldritch item of course.

A small bonus on top of all that would be nice but it wouldn't have to be major. Maybe a +2 bonus to the stat of your choice each run. Although that might play havoc with the character designer.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

Really cool concept. I agree it should have some stats on the token itself that make it "worth it" on the numbers cruch side so there isn't a reason to not upgrade.

Going to be a hard call on which run to run as the subclass.

Looking forward to seeing more!

I appreciate the complete Rod will be limited without being soulforged. That would be a deal-breaker for me personally, but I'm sure a lot of folks might be ok with it.

I was also thinking about the "soul forged" coolness of having my name on the token rather than a number, but then that would remove the option of ever being able to sell/trade the token to anybody else (although I'm pretty sure I'd never get rid of mine after the journey it took to make it!)

This. I would like to know for sure that there are other abilities, and what they are.

the supreme ring had all the abilities of individual rings and then some
so it should have the individual pieces as well(my guess)

I think the bonus will rock. I can't wait to see the monk sub class...? Zen Master? I do hope that the the completed rod has all the +1's plus the eldritch item, plus something small for stats on top of the sub class once per year thing.

I am hoping double what each seg is and subclass and something else

I would suggest they don't allow them to stack, so there is no need to keep an uncombined form or need for multiple completed rods, from a character stat point of view. If someone wanted to do multiples so they could run different times that'd be fine.

I completely agree. The bonuses from the rod (if they are available)should be allowed in the final complete form, or in the segment form, but I don't think they should stack with themselves or each other (my understanding now is any two or more of the same segment don't stack anyways).

I'm hoping for three things:
1. At least the benefits from each rod segment 1-7 (although Lazlo's suggestion for +2 to everything is mouth watering...)
2. The eldritch set bonus (counts as a piece no matter what)
3. The limited redemption for the subclass ability Jeff mentioned, while still retaining all of the normal passive bonuses of the rod for the subclass run as well as any others.

If those three things are made part of the completed rod, it would make planning for runs a lot easier (I don't have to worry about subtracting the rod benefits for the run as a subclass) and also a no brainer as there would be no downside to combining your segments and completing the token.

The really evil thing would be to make the rod more like the original from the adventure module where after a one-time devastatingly awesome ability where the rod then breaks into 7 pieces again and is scattered across the world again (i.e. Jeff takes the token from you and puts the 7 segment tokens back into the treasure pull bins for others to find) :-P

LOL, I agree with Adeya. It would be nice to have the pieces thrown into the treasure boxes as they get transmuted. Maybe starting next year, unless the Rod can only be made until Dec 2015.
