TOPIC: What Do You Do with less Usable URs

Re: What Do You Do with less Usable URs 10 years 7 months ago #25

I personally think older UR's are what should be seeding the gearbox instead of all of the transmutes. That would let experienced players (who already have good gear) concentrate on monster bits, while newer players could be trying to pull items like:

+1 Plate Armor
Troll Hide Armor
+2 Dagger
+2 Quarterstaff
+2 Longsword
+1 Tower Shield
Medalion of Heroism (not old, but was obsolete from the start)
Ring of Wizardry
Hat of Healing

Looted players are unlikely to chase any of these items, but for newer and more casual players, this would make their day. (Probably not as much as drawing relics...because they ebayed those.)

Agreed. But I'm not sure how many of those tokens Jeff has around. I get the feeling most of them are kind of just sitting lonely in someone's closet. If there was some way to turn them in or upgrade them on the other hand...

Not all UR's are the same in value so there shouldn't be a "trade in x URs for y". I do think something along the lines of a relic system to upgrade older URs seems more legit and gets them back into circulation (by seeding the treasure boxes).

Transmutes shouldn't be based on the value of the items used to make them. If they ever allow UR's to transmute it should be either specific UR's or a number of them. Secondary market value shouldn't be an issue.

All I can think when I see this thread is "Gnomish Backpack of Leaping Attack"

For the last couple of years I've been suggesting one or more transmuted tokens include in the recipe "any UR". That would be a good way for people to get some use out of the Ultra-Rares that aren't in demand :)

And any of those that are turned in could be put into the treasure box...as there are philanthropists in the group, I really wouldn't be surprised if someone eventually put a HoP in there, just to see what came of it.

More than likely though, it'd grab the lesser used, many of which have been mentioned here.

I'm not understanding the resistance to putting these into circulation at a lower cost or for largish amounts of gold if the trade is performed at GenCon. I know that only a small fraction of players even check these forums, so it may be more realistic to try for a gold/UR trade at GenCon, but I think a well-displayed price list for the unwanted URs will get them back into circulation and give the trader a reasonable payout. A lot of the long-time casual players must have in the thousands of gold.

I would totally support this. Also, it's been suggested in the thread that some of these lesser used URs would make for good treasure pulls for the more casual users. If we turned them as part of a transmuted token trade, then Jeff would have them available to use in the treasure boxes.

I totally get that not all URs will be as useful, just as not all rares, uncommons or commons are equally useful. But with rares, uncommons and commons we have a way to recycle them through the trade tokens. This was not an issue for URs in the past, but with power creep and more UR choices available, there should be a way to recycle URs as well.

But it is, and Jeff does listen to the large collectors. There are many reasons why the secondary market value matters in TD more than in other collectible games, suffice to say that Jeff is aware of those reasons.

Because then Jeff has to get into putting $ or GP values on UR tokens, something he has sworn he will never do. He pays attention to what happens on the secondary market, but that doesn't mean he will get involved in it.

Why are medallion of heroism obsolete, I'm not a new player but I have been doing this casually for some years, and it was the first item that gave a level that I could use and get without too much trouble.
