TOPIC: Ultra Rare Combo Item - Supreme Ring of Elemental Command

Okay...I give.  I wanted to make this a surprise, and I hinted at it, but this is the only Set power yet defined.  I understand why people want it to be announced ahead of time - especially since we now have a 2-year window on all URs.<br /><br />Supreme Ring of Elemental Command - Reduces cold, electrical, fire and sonic attacks by 5 points of damage, and it does 2 points of "eldritch" (divine druid magic) damage to a monster that hits the character with a melee attack.  Eldritch magic is very rare and ancient form of magic lost to the ages, and only very ancient elder magic can conjure it.  There is no known resistance magic for its effects.<br /><br />Ingredients: All four different Ring of Elemental Command Rings + one each of all the Trade ingredients<br /><br />I hope this helps with the token planning.  Thanks!

Jeff, it's an interesting token, but it doesn't seem worth the cost.  This prevents 5 damage of any of the elements, but has a pretty big drawback of adding 2 damage of unpreventable damage to any monster melee hit on you.  That seems like a pretty balanced Ultra-Rare, even a pretty powerful one.  It doesn't seem worth four Ultra-Rares and a couple of hundred dollars of Trade Item Tokens though, in my opinion.

<br /><br />It sounded to me like it was increasing the damage done to the Ring Wearer by two.  It's a better item if it does damage to the monster, like a mini-Amulet of Thorns. 

Well seeing as how each ring used to do 2 points of damage to the monster when they hit with melee attacks, it sort of makes sense now doesn't it?

<br /><br />I agree it does make sense that it would be 2 points damage to the monster, I'm just saying the wording "and it adds 2 points of "eldritch" (divine druid magic) to any melee hit made by a monster" sounds like it is two additional points of damage added to the monsters damage.  You are probably right and it's actually 2 points to the monster, I'm sure Jeff will jump in and clarify soon.  <br />

If I take two extra points of unpreventable damage from wearing this ring, that's an absolute deal-breaker. For me, that's not even close to being worth it.<br /><br />If the monster hitting me takes two points of unpreventable damage, to me the ring is still kind of meh. Yeah, it's nice to have five points of near universal elemental damage reduction, but since rings are swappable, I'd much rather carry four rare (50% DR) or ultra rare (5 DR) rings and swap them as needed. If you want to combine all the powers of the original URs and grant the 5 DR from all elements and an eldritch damage shield of 8, then I'd be a lot more likely to sacrifice my $1,000 set of rings for this One Ring.<br /><br />Even then, I'd much rather see some kind of Wonder Twin (Wonder Quadruplets?) powers with the complete Ro_EC set. Something like if all four rings are worn by the party (spread out between 2-4 people, natch), the whole party gains a benefit. I dunno, maybe a one-point damage shield or two-point universal energy DR. Maybe require a round to activate the powers of the combined rings if you think that's too powerful.

I don't really get the spazzy comments so far. There is no situation where swapping would be a better situation than having 1 ring that basically does the same thing as all the others combined. Either there's some sort of insanity going around or I don't get what is up. maybe it's like gary's take on the RoR in the other thread. I just don't understand what the confusion could be. It's like being told you can combine the HoP and AoW into one item but saying you personally prefer to switch back and forth between runs.

I'm afraid, I agree...the snazzy one ring is kinda flat.<br /><br />I'd much rather keep all 4 element rings and be allowed to wear all four on one hand!  (ALA Mandarin!)  We keep our URs and get a set bonus!
