TOPIC: 2010 Dungeon Token Buying Incentive or Disincentive?

Re: 2010 Dungeon Token Buying Incentive or Disincentive? 13 years 7 months ago #13

I think Jeff really needs to consider the set when making an encounter like Smoak. When there is a final boss that is immune to most items, the things it is not immune to should be at every rarity. For example: The Ioun Stone was immune to magic except for Force. So the set should have had:
Common: Scroll: Magic Missile
Uncommon: Scroll: Spiritual Hammer (Divine: 6 damage, force)
Rare: Wand of Magic Missiles
UR: +2 Staff of Power

Furthermore, when there is an outright kill on 100% of a non-tokened party, there should be a fix to it at every rarity:
Common: Potion: Fire Resistance
Uncommon: Salve of Fireproofing: Totally immune to 1st fire attack in 1 room
Rare: Ring of Fire Resistance
UR: Ring of Fire Elemental Command

Well like I said to Jeff during the Riddle reveal , since we beat the dragon and had a few moments still the stone was taken, no Dracolich with Ioun Stone

What I felt really bad about as a coach was seeing how many parties went in that had absolute zero chance of surviving. I'm sure the Ioun Stone was seen as a means of making the battle difficult for the token heavy, but it made it so ridiculously impossible for the token light as to be absurd. A party of new players with only the 10-pack would survive at most 4-5 rounds and probably do 0 points of damage to Smoak.

I understand making a dragon a challenge, but having a party feel they made almost no progress on the dragon at all is a bit disheartening.

Raywind, what do you mean regarding a difference in how the ioun stone worked?

Well, I meant that I was pretty 'meh' at it being changed to block 99% of the to-hit bonuses, instead of just magical bonuses.

I hope that if we keep carrying one, it'll come in handy some day. (Rather then being another useless Rare..)
Blimey!

I figure as soon as there are 6 good Ioun Stones for my group to use, the Black Pearl will be the first one we drop.

Well, there was a potential use for the Black Pearl in True Grind, where one of the monsters could cast True Strike (and the Black Pearl would negate or partially negate the magical + hit bonus).

And speaking of Ioun Stones, it was nice that the Iridescent Spindle turned out to be quite essential for anyone trapped within a Nightmare Gelatinous Cube.

I like that... I guess our Nightmare group killed our trapped member too quickly for that to begin mattering. >.>

As for the Black Pearl / True Strike... fair enough. I ran the Grind twice, but didn't see that be cast.

This may have already been posted but did anyone use the Universal Solvent on the Gelatinous cube?
