TOPIC: Two Types of token bags in 2010?

I like the idea of light packs, but for Gary's sake, I support the option to choose.
I prefer 10 packs as well. Like Gary, I enjoy the sorting and figuring out just what trade items I can make. I guess it's never bothered me about the postage to send tokens to Dave. As frustrating as it is not getting enough of some ingredients, it does promote trading. (Anyone who has extra creeper thorns for trade please send me a pm) I remember telling a friend of mine who comes to Gencon with me and my husband that the part that I enjoy most about tokens is the social interaction that it brings. I wonder if the light bags wouldn't diminish that somewhat.

Kim

As a big token buyer (... errr, well, at least in years when I'm not buying thousands of dollars of other TD related gear) I LOVE the idea of lighter smaller packs.

Dealing with token orders over the last few years has been sliding from a "fun treasure hunt" to a "chunk of manual labor that I have schedule into my life like other chores" (well, that's a little harsh, it still starts out fun but after an hour or two it does start feeling like a chore).

I've outright given-up on the common-based trade-tokens. I just haven't had time to further sort commons down to be able to form them, but this has become a catch-22 because I now have so many tokens taking up space.

This new plan would help me in both counts, pre-combined trade-tokens, and less tokens to have to deal with. I think it could really help slide things farther back on the fun side of things.

I also like the light packs idea, although I had initially thought that I'd buy 1/2 light packs, 1/2 regular packs. I could live with 70/30 though. The idea is worth trying JUST for the sake of making Dave Radtke's life easier, imho, by saving him from receiving heavy boxes, verifying counts, storing scads of tokens, keeping records and mailing off fulfillment items. He'd doubtless still have to do some of that, but even if it's reduced in half, I'm sure he'd appreciate it!

Perhaps if you sorted them a little at a time it would seem like less of a chore?

Kim

Actually no that would make it much worse. When I am sorting my tokens they take up significant amount of space. Until all the tokens are done the big table in the basement is not useable. I would have my family complaining that I wasn't done with the tokens yet.

If the commons were all in a box and you removed x amount at a time to sort they wouldn't need to take up the entire table. Besides, Mike may not have the same problem of family complaining that his tokens are taking up all the space on the big table in the basement.

Kim

Space is part of the problem, but having this activity become work is the major problem. Sorting tokens (even if its a handful a day) becomes tedious.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I have been working my way through various token management techniques over the years, and as I said in my last post, I've just given up on commons (unless they are healing).

I'm by no means saying that TD must make these new packs, I'm just saying that if TD does I would find them very nice (for reasons explained in my last post), and would want to buy them.

For me, the first time we bought a big order, it was exciting going through all of the packs, looking to see what we had, sorting, etc. But then (since we used the office floor), I was tripping over them for over two weeks until we figured out what to do with them. Then the next one, etc. After trying different storage methods (from plastic baggies to USPS Priority Mail boxes to finally poker chip cases), we finally went through the arduous task of putting together baggies to send to Dave for trade-ins to make room for new tokens. Ouch! The postage was a killer, and inventory of the items is a chore too. And yet, I still think tokens are very neat.

So....medium length story short.....I am excited by the prospect of having fewer tokens to inventory, store and potentially trade-in. I definitely agree that it should be completely optional to take the light bags and for that reason getting counts of each type from those of us that are planning for tokens next year (prior to the ordering) would be highly advisable instead of predetermining a mix. As long as the purples are published prior to this (so people know how many PYPs they want), the vast majority of orders should go really smoothly. If people want to add more later, they will just have the choice of the standard packs.

Here's one that is hoping the printer is cool with this.

Excellent, excellent idea.

Sort of off topic, but the purps should be "hidden" in the tokens for pre-orders rather than on top. Makes the whole "opening treasure" less fun if I can see if I got something amazing in the first 10 seconds of opening my box.

Hmmm. Neither of the two purples we received were on top. One of them was somewhat distinct though because the red wasn't on top.

We would, of course, make it purely optional as far as having to take light bags...and we could ask people the ratio they want whether it is 50/50 or 90/10.

The trick is going to be assigning the proper values to the FOURTH tokens so that both light and heavy bags have the same value.

Slot 4a) 33% Uncommon GP token equal to average GP earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average GP Common draw for 1 bag)*

Slot 4c) 33% Uncommon healing token equal to average heal earned by drawing out 7 tokens from the 40 Common token pool TIMES 300% (33% X 300% = average Healing Common draw for 1 bag)*

Slot 4d) 33% Random Trade token broken down in percentages that equates to the current percentages of gaining each token based on drawing out 7 random Commons -- so there would be a better chance to get some more than others

This one will be a little tough because of the wildly different values of the various Trade items. We will assume that 2010 will match 2009 in the numbers of each type -- and then make sure it matches when we do the collection. I am not sure if the value of all the possible Trade tokens will add up to exactly a whole number so some of the tokens in the "Trade token" bucket might have to be just regular Common tokens to make the percentages the same as the heavy bags. So...there might be a small chance of only pulling a Common token instead of a Trade token if we are to keep the percentages correct. And it could go the other way where there would be a chance to pull TWO Trade tokens out of a Light Bag. We just have to see what the odds are.

Fun stuff! Let's hope we can have the aid of NASA on this one!

I will check into it and let everyone know.

Slot 4e) 01% 100 - 100 Ultra Rare
