TOPIC: Two Types of token bags in 2010?

Two Types of token bags in 2010? 14 years 7 months ago #1

How about as a way to make thing easier/simpler/cheeper on producing and handling tokens we go to two different types of token bags?

1 (Classic bag). Normal mix of tokens. These bag would only be sold at GenCon or given as to players entering the dungeon.

2. (Light weight bags). These bags would be used for pre-sale only. These bags would have 1 rare, 2 uncommon and 1 extra token. 1 in 100 would be purple like normal, the other 99 times it would have 1/3 an ingot of Dwarven steel or 1/3 minotaur hide or 1/3 another reserve token.

The big advantage to the light weight bags,
1) less shipping cost,
2) less tokens printed,
3) less handling and storage needed at TD,
4) Smack could bring a smaller car to pick up his purchase,
5) easier for most folks to get reserve tokens from Dave,
6) less tokens to be distroyed after Dave gets them.

I guess people could request the classic bags on pre-sales but I would love to have less tokens to sort and store and since all the commons are headed to Dave anyway, why not save time and just use the 1/3 reserve tokens.

Just a thought. It just seems like it would be easier to me.

Hmmm...what do more collectors say?

We would have to get all the "big" pre-orders in BEFORE we could place the token order...but that could be doable?

I really like the idea of not having as many duplicates that later have to be shipped to Dave. I would think that having some regular packs available for pre-sell as well would be good (some collectors do want to get at least one of each common as well). Maybe get all of the "light" orders before the initial token order is placed and anyone who hasn't got their orders in by the deadline are stuck with the normal packs. Keeping the PYP, those would have to be announced before that so people could make their requests.

I'd hope either bag could be bought in the pre-sale season...I mean how else to we get that Common and Uncommon GOLD???

I'd say NO if we can ONLY buy the Light bags...GIVE ME TOKENS!!!

I had another idea too. What if you could get a stamp on your wristband that said you did not receive your 10 pack token bag? Instead, at the XP desk you turned in the wristband and received 1 of each ingredient token. This would be beneficial to the players who have the tokens they need, and are looking for ingredients. It would also eliminate much of the cost of tokens from the TD point of view. The major drawback here is ingredients become much less tradeable.

This is an interesting idea, but I agree with Gary in that it makes it difficult to acquire gold.

Kim

I really like the idea.

The only thing that would make me hesitant would be the lack of common healing (and after an edit gold). I love common healing.

I would like you to have:
Slot 1) Rare
Slot 2) Uncommon
Slot 3) Uncommon
Slot 4a) 1/100 Ultra Rare, else 4b
Slot 4b) 2/3 <something>, else 4c
Slot 4c) 1/3 <ingredients>

Just cut out the need to trade in for these ingredient tokens all together. This way you cut down on trading in of tokens.

It would be neat if the 2/3 items were useful in getting rid of some of the old tokens you have lying about. I would suggest making the 2/3 slot above a special token draw (no horn of plenty or anything) . . . call them gambling house winnings tokens . . . and have a box of tokens by the normal treasure box by the checkout. You can put some cool surprise stuff in the box, of course. Or you could just fill 2/3 slots with old stuff.

It would be nice if the 2/3 slots were healing (and gold). Perhaps some dust that can be used with a healing potion to add a point of healing (everyone loves cool-aid).

Perhaps make the 2/3 slots trade in for Ultra Rare tokens. Save up 100 (or whatever) and get a random Ultra Rare, save up 200 (or whatever) and pick one out. Perhaps you can assign a trade-in value to whatever URs you have about. I am sure if you give the parameters of profitability to the community we can make you a price list.
It is an appealing idea. However, in addition to the concerns about gold, there is a concern about common items needed for combo tokens and general utility consumable common tokens-- like faerie water to feed the goblet of healing. I would want both types of bags available for pre-order, so that I could get about 1/2 as normal token bags and about 1/2 as 'light' token bags.

Then again, imagine the fun as big token buyers go scouring the trade forums, looking to trade their excess for rare and uncommon tokens for that essential common token.

The next question would be what is the charge for a light bag of tokens? Right now with ten tokens in a bag it works out to a dollar a token. Would the price be adjusted downward to reflect the fact that you are getting less tokens?

It'll be kind of cool if all these tokens we've been turning in over the years turn up as Smoak's treasure hoard in the last room.

Kim

Sparking trading from top down would be good for the economy.

Mayhaps the last slot could be 2/3 common, and 1/3 ingredient item.

The value of each token is not $1 after opening the pack on eBay. If you can still order the “normal” packs, then you would not loose anything if you valued each token at $1. One would simply need to not select this pre-order option (intended to save on production, shipping, and trade in time).

i saw the title of the post and thought it had to do with the token bags themselves, and how the blue ones ran out quickly during gencon. im glad i got a couple of the blue bags, because i will eventually have a different color bag for the weapons of each class (i equip my whole group of friends, so any help organizing is great). how about yellow bags for next year? the wizard wants his own color. or white for the cleric.
basically, keep the new colors coming :)

I think that giving the trade item tokens were an effort to offset the perceived loss of value with the fewer tokens. Probably the same price would be charged as it is mainly to avoid having to trade back a lot of commons.
