I received the following in an email just now from TA:

"You gain XP by how far you got in the Dungeon. Players that played multiple times will only recieve XP for their best game played within 1 year or per module. Thus, if you played True Dungeon last year, this year, and True Heroes AND got at least 1000XP each time, you should now be 3rd level. "

This is my second year playing in TD. I enjoyed both times, and loved the fact I made it through alive to the end each time. But what I do not like is the fact you are combining TH and TD xp. This should be kept seperate.

2 different systems, 2 different kinds of games, shoul dhave 2 different xp lists. It would NOT be very hard to do.

Please seperate the xp, keep TD pure, and TH pure.

I was also suprised by this (and I played through both as a player and have no xp).

Since they are both True Adventures games, this will allow them to create future games and still keep the same xp even if they change licenses.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I understand where they are coming from.

I'm all for keeping the XP the same for each game. I think it works because then you can reward the player no matter what True Adventures system game they play in. What if True Adventures expands to 5 different types of games? I would rather have experience that works for all of those games then have to build up 5 characters separately. It would be too much work (and money, for that matter.)

Keep 'em the same, I say.

Speaking of XP, how much do you get if you survived to the last room, but didn't complete the adventure? How much more do you get if you finish the game? Do you get XP for anything special, or do you just get XP for how long you survive?

Then you get the rich vs poor scenario. People who play just to get the xp, and not really the true experiance of it. Yes, there are UBER players like this out there, I have ran into them numerous times in other games.

Frankly I cant afford to pay $39.98 to play in 2 games, that is only going to last for about 4 hours. I know I am not the only one out there like this as well.

I can see your point in not wanting to build seperate characters, but honestly what does a super hero and a dungeon crawler have in common? Nothing unless if they are a TA player. It doesnt make sense to do it like this.

That cuts both ways. If you can only afford to play in one, should you be penalized for the one you choose?

Remember, this doesn't hurt anyone, it just supports those who support both games.

The thing that I would worry about is that I'm only level 1!

As far as I know, the XP system is more for bragging rights than it is an actual effect on either system. The rewards for second level players coming into the GenCon Indy 2004 TD module (from what I saw as a DM) didn't exactly make the more experienced player unstoppable.

I completely agree. There are too many variables involved; from reading some of the posts for True Heroes, it appears that TH was much easier than TD this year... so how can you combine the XP? They are apples and oranges... if I go play in TH next year, I will be 2nd level without playing through a TH module. How does that make sense exactly?

As mentioned in the quote above: Please (PLEASE!) seperate the xp, keep TD pure, and TH pure.

Hell, if my XP counts in TH, why not let me use my TD tokens as well?

I was surprised at the fact that I wasn't 3rd level as I got to the last room both years. But then read that the only way to be 3rd level at this point was to have played true heroes as well. I can see where you are coming from on combining it but still feel a little gypped. I probably would have played TH if I'd known that you were combining experience but oh well. Maybe I'll win the lottery and I can go to gencon socal. Other than that I had a GREAT time and liked everything as it was, even the bard book (our bard did a great job!) but I'm getting OT.

Thanks

Most of the posts here seem to be of the impression that you have lost something by not participating in TH.

I look at it the other way around. It is a nice bonus for the TH players who want to play TD in the future.

Nobody is being penalized for not playing TH.

It's a matter of perspective.

I just want to comment first that i am not being aggressive, although some of my words seem to carry that tone. i just have strong feelings about this.

Then you get the rich vs poor scenario. People who play just to get the xp, and not really the true experiance of it. Yes, there are UBER players like this out there, I have ran into them numerous times in other games.

why can't i want to do both? does that make me an UBER player? i want to experience True Dungeon as much as possible (heck, if I wasn't a full-time volunteer for the Auction, I would volunteer for TD in a hearbeat.) to do that, I need to play in as many of the modules as I can, to get the xp necessary to play in the higher level dungeons when they come out. if that costs me a couple extra bucks to play in TD and TH, that's fine with me. it is worth the extra money now for the opportunity later.

Frankly I cant afford to pay $39.98 to play in 2 games, that is only going to last for about 4 hours. **snip**

yes, but i can. and this is a business, first and foremost. so, why should they tone down their content, and not offer as much opportunity, because some people can't afford it? hell, I'd pay $25 a pop to run through TD and TH, because i like it that much. but, just because you aren't willing to do that, or you can't afford to do that, doesn't mean that i shouldn't be given the opportunity to do so if i so choose.

I can see your point in not wanting to build seperate characters, but honestly what does a super hero and a dungeon crawler have in common? Nothing unless if they are a TA player. It doesnt make sense to do it like this.

it has nothing to do with the characters... it is all about the player. the player has the experience in playing the game, and the mechanics of it, not the character. so, with an experienced player, you can build modules that are more complex, with the assumption that the people playing the characters in the module already know what's going on, they understand the mechanic, and no extra explaining is necessary. plus, it gives a pay off for the extra money we are spending... higher level, cooler adventures.

at least... i hope they will be cooler. at least better lit...
