I'm trying so hard to stay apolitical here. You are all so much better at it than I am.

The general consensus is indeed that good weather is better for the dems, and bad weather for repubs. The issue is turnout - Dems tend to do better when turnout is high, and repubs when turnout is low. Historically repub voters have been more motivated and diligent in voting.

But how do chicken entrails figure in? And I swear, when I first wrote that, I was NOT thinking of you and your new chicken avatar. Nope.

BTW, DBL, have you ever paid attention to Canadian elections? Near as I can tell, they hold them when the current Prime Minister or President or Queen Bee or whatever gets tired of the job. Gives his 30 day notice, and then they start working up an election. There's certainly some merit to that method.
In Parliamentary systems, the Prime Minister is often elected to a specific term, say 5 years, but has the option to call for new elections within that time period for a new 5-year term. The PM therefore will often call for an election before the term is up, at a point he/she thinks is advantageous to his/her party.
I guess I'm used to the fact that schools have always been closed on election day here. That includes universities as well.

Kim

MY impression from my Canadian neighbors is that they hold new electrions when there is a crisis of confidence about the current administration. The political parties there are constantly trying to embarrass and harrass each other. Sound familiar? As far as I can tell, most Canadians vote, but only in between guffaws and chortles about the foolhardiness of their politicians.

and by the way, I also would never made a crude joke about chicken entrails to a chicken. It's just not polite.

I went and voted at 6am. I have never seen lines like that. It was really great to see that many people voting.

Kim

I waited for over an hour to vote and made it to work almost an hour late.

I voted, but I fear the worst is upon us. The catapults are loaded with dead cows.
