TOPIC: Meet Bella

Meet Bella 15 years 5 months ago #1

About 2 weeks before Gen Con Indy, an approximatly 3 week old kitten showed up on my patio with her mother. I put food out for them, and the next day, kitten was back without mom. It appears something got mom. Well for the 2 weeks leading up to the weekend of Indy (I had to be in Las Vegas and had to miss Indy), I tried to trap the kitten, because I couldnt get close to her. However she was too light to set the live trap off. So I flew off to Vegas with a slightly heavy heart at leaving the lil baby out in the wilds. She was living under an abandoned car in the parking lot in front of my patio, and I had been dropping food off to her and leaving a trail to my patio.

Well I got back from Vegas at about 2:30 in the morning that following Tuesday. Went to work that day, and then that night I am sitting in my chair loving on Jackers and Thai (my other two cats), and my patio door starts rattling. She is sitting on a crate, ignoring the full bowl of food that is next to her, rattling my door, meowing at me silently, wanting in. I opened the door, and she promptly curled up under my dining room table and went to sleep. I scouped her up, quarantened her in the bathroom, and noticed she had a massive lump in her neck. A quick trip to the vet the next day revealed it to be a parasite that was eating it's way to her brain. 5 minute surgery later, she was free of parasites, on antibiotics for the upper respitory infection, and on her way home with me. Next day, her leukemia tests came up clean, so I could release her from quarantine.

Bella was less then 1 pound when I let her in. She is now up to 3.6 pounds, healthy as can be, and is in love with Thai.

Pictures! www.flickr.com/photos/79943489@N00/2810468943/in/set-72157607024833503/

I just looked at the other pictures. The rest of your cats are pretty adorable as well.

Kim

Kittens are always cute. That's how they reel you in. Soon, before you know it, they become cats and then there's no answers that don't end with a wood chipper or a chinese restaurant*.

*: note, a burlap sack and a twisty tie is also an acceptable answer for those with a body of water nearby.

Thanks! The creamy orange one is Thai, he turns 2 at Thanksgiving. Jackers is the black, who is turning 8 soon.

Damned if Henwy isn't right yet again. Please let me know if you run short. We've got about a half dozen of the little beggars slinking around here. I only need your full address to add more cats to your life. Seriously, it sounds like your cat had a warble (check google for the scoop if you have a strong constitution). That happens some times in rural settings with lots of farm animals around. It's most common in cattle, but occasionally other animals like cats get tagged. I took one off a cat about 10 years ago. Henwy, did you ever get a warble? This creature and its life cycle could feed you rich material for a long time to come.
Of all the traits of humanity, there is only one we do not share with other species, which sets us apart and makes us unique
-- the ability to imagine.

Yep, that is exactly what she had, was a Warble. The vet even brought it out to show me when they were done, it was still alive. They keep it in a vial, becuase it was HUGE, and they use it as an educational tool. It was about the size of my thumb. Bella was really sick and not doing well when she showed up here, but now she is healthy, and at this exact moment she is doing laps around the living room while I work on the laptop.

The other cat you saw was Ophelia. She died October 2006.
