Favorite Gen Con moments... (not including TD) 16 years 4 weeks ago #1

OK - I admit - I've been a little bored at work lately, and since many of the other sites I like are not work appropriate (SomethingAwful, HappyTreeFriends, etc) I like to come here and read. BUT you people have not been posting enough lately to keep me on for very long. So, maybe this will give you a place to make some long posts for MY entertainment. Hee hee.

I would have to say one of my favorites was back in Milwaukee - there was a Weapons & Warriors tournament, and I happened to be on the team that won the World Championship. But the winning itself wasn't really the best part - it was what happened for the next 4 years that was fun... The other people that played in and organized the tournament decided to become my fan club, and every time they saw me at Gen Con, they would run up to me yelling, "It's her! It's the World Champion!" and ask me for my autograph, and pictures and all that jazz. Now, WE knew that it was all fun and games, but the reactions of the people around us were the best. You could sometimes hear people say, "Who is that? And what is she world champion of?" It was definitely something that always made me smile.

Hee hee hee....That makes me think of a "FUTURE" favorite moment....When Jammies turns up at Indy 2008 and people start running up to her exclaiming with glee..."It's HER....the WORLD CHAMPION" and so it continues!

You've given these forumites food for fodder Jammies!

On topic, though (even though you siad NOT TD) my favorite Gen Con moment is every year when we get there and people start turning up. It's so crazy to me to see this new group of old friends. It's interesting how not too long ago none of these people knew one another and now they're old pals. Everyone starts arriving and it's like the last convention wasn't a year ago, but recent and we saw each other last week.

I like the friendships that are formed...that's for sure the coolest thing about Gen Con for me.

Lori

Aw, man...I got alot of fave GC moments.

- The time I won a t-shirt by winning a Settlers of Catan game
- Playing Giant Settlers of Catan
- My first run thru TD, when a pixie told our party the books on the tavern walls came from the "Smith's son, Ian"
- My TT TD run last year, when we made it thru the dungeon without taking a point of damage
- Just meandering thru the Exhibitor's Hall
- Meeting Feedback, both in the Hall and in the dungeon
- Meeting and talking to Aaron Williams and his wife Cristi

My least fave moment of every GC is about 4 on Sunday afternoon, taking a last look at the Exhibitor's Hall, knowing I have to go outside and catch a taxi to the airport.

Brian
The cardboard cutout and placing 5th (or whatever it was) the first year I tried NASCRAG were both pretty spiffy.

Sorry, modified when I should have quoted...
Hey I ranked a memory! =D

My favorite prop is still the 'Black Hole' from 04'. Probably the simplest prop ever which is part of why I love it. It was just an all around great little prop.

That counts... I just didn't want this to be all about favorite moments during TD runs... there are plenty of other threads on this forum where people talk about that. =D

I have to admit seeing Tracy H. completely stumped speechless at your antics was pretty amusing.
Back when I was into Magic, we went the year that they had just released the "Legends" expansion. I referred to that Con for years as "Line Con" since I spent most of my time in lines, waiting to buy my allotment of 3 or 5 or whatever packs of Legends. Of course you get to know the other people in line, and one of them was quite the big collector. Many people walked by with giant binders, looking for people to trade with, and he would brush them off. Then one guy came by with a pretty beat up starter deck box only, and my new friend's ears perked right up. Sure enough, that was the guy with the Beta Lotus and several Moxes - how did he know? I'm thinking the starter deck box was from the Beta edition - either that, or Lotus' have some mysterious scent....

binia

Lotus does have a mysterious scent lol it was a rare card to get ahold of....Anyways favorite gencon memory would have to be when I took my ex's mom for the day sunday and this guy was running around in Cthullu (hope I spelled it right) house slippers. Well tammy goes "Look at those cute froggy slippers!" The guy turns to us and goes "THEY'RE CTHULLU SLIPPERS!" and storms off. I didn't have time to warn her that they were an octopus and not a frog  =D it was funny to me she was hurt and that guy was a complete......well you know what. I wanted to kick him!
