Actually it springs from token development.

If there are 12 Classes then Human Fighter and Dwarf Fighter should get their own Legendaries eventually. If there are only 10 then there should just be a Fighter Legendary.

Ah I see. So we're just getting a head start on next year's arguments around Token Development! :D

I believe the correct answer is 22.

10 regular, and 12 available only through the rod of seven parts.

I see it as 12 different classes because the two Wizard classes and two Fighter classes aren't identical.

The two classes of each are very similar from a token perspective. The two Wizards have the same number of tokens, the Dwarf Fighter has one more token than Fighter - from TokenDB.Com.

Maybe the classes should differentiate in tokens some? Like, maybe for some polymorph tokens, it should be Druid and Elf Wizard instead of Druid & Wizards?

I would be against this as the whole idea is to bring your Fighter build, and if someone took fighter you could play Dwarf Fighter without having to do any changes. The same goes for Wizard.

The one token I believe you are referring to is the Extra Taunt Uncommon, which is the only differentiation between the two.

Even better, both of them are wrong. Although we can now argue 22 versus 24.

The correct answer is that there are two classes in TD.
  1. Those that often think Ed is wrong.
  2. Ed.

There are two kinds of people in the world.

1) People who can extrapolate from incomplete data.

If you want to be technically correct, which is the best kind of correct, there are 12 classes, excluding any ROSP shenanigans.

Both the players guide and dms guide have verbiage that makes it clear that each different character card corresponds to one class.

In practice I see some people like to lump fighters and wizards into one class each, which I think is reasonable shorthand for “two classes that are so similar that for most considerations they can be thought of us undifferentiated.”

There is at least one token a dwarf fighter can use that a fighter can’t.

Yes but is that because of his class or his race? LOL.

According to TokenDB there is an uncommon usable by Dwarf Fighter that is not usable by Fighter.

Abyssal Lenses of Taunting.

So are Dwarves as Race better at inflammatory insults? (Imagine Billy Connolly voice here)

Or better as a class at attracting the attention of monsters?
