TOPIC: hotels.com having downtown rooms avail

Not sure how long they'll last but hotels.com is showing as of 9:45am (est) downtown hotel rooms for several hotels at a pretty decent rate. 1st time using hotels.com but looking like a solid backup plan for when hotel lottery blows up.

Side note/question, has anybody around here used hotels.com before? I admit browsing through when i saw downtown rooms avail i figured it was worth the gamble but i'm interested in other thoughts/opinions as i've never booked a hotel outside of block before and this time using a 3rd party website.

You can get a better rate for Embassy Suites by booking through hilton.com. Use AAA or AARP rate codes if you are a member. I booked our rooms there, at I'm sure a lower rate than the GENCON housing block will have.

Embassy Suites shows as sold out on the Hilton site.

There were still rooms at the Hilton yesterday. I got mine with HHonors points, so I'm not sure about other availability.

Wow. Great catch. I just booked this through Hilton.com and got an additional Hilton Honors discount. Not sure how long before they close this obvious error, but usually they will honor reservations confirmed before they fix it.

Seems almost too good to be true, but have my email confirmation. I did note this paragraph in the cancellation policy.

We reserve the right to cancel or modify reservations where it appears that a customer has engaged in fraudulent or inappropriate activity or under other circumstances where it appears that the reservations contain or resulted from a mistake or error.

They don't really specify if the mistake or error is on the customer end or their end. Normally, my experience is that they will honor things like this, even if they made a mistake. But I guess it depends.

Actually, the price on hotels.com and the price directly on Embassy Suites web site when I looked were exactly the same. Maybe that's cause we're a year out, but who knows...

I suspect this is the first week that next year's dates are less than 1 year out, so it's the first time these rooms were made available. Someone fell asleep on their to do list and forgot to block the dates on their site. Hotels.com probably just picked up the room availability from Hilton's site and extended them on their site. I'm certain this will all be discovered and fixed shortly. But in the meantime anyone with a confirmed reservation may be good. I had something similar happen four or five years back with a Hyatt hotel for San Diego Comic Con and they still honored my reservation without question and that Con is even tougher to get a downtown hotel room.

Are you guys still seeing rooms because I am not?
