TOPIC: Dungeons and Dragons Online

Dungeons and Dragons Online 18 years 1 month ago #1

Ok.. so I've been fiddling around in the beta for Dungeons and Dragons Online and I'm loving it. Has anyone else decided to preorder/buy this game?

From a MMORPG perspective I love the fact that they force you to actually take pause and think about what your doing through the course of the adventure. It's not just running into a room and killing everything repeat. Heck one of the first few missions actually has you try to solve a puzzle with floor pieces to open a forcefield. I've been playing this with Tim (aka Death Jr.) and we're both liking it and keep referencing it as TD Online.

Check it out.

I've been thinking about it. Is it truly different from all the orther MMORPGs? While I find them fun for awhile, I get tired of the leveling treadmill. My friends and I have just been playing on free user-created NWN persistent worlds that actually have RP.

I believe next Tuesday through Friday they are having a FREE stress test. Could be a good chance to check it out without spending any money.

Yeah they are having a free stress test next week. And I have to say it really is different. You only earn experience buy completing quests so mindless grinding is pushed away. To help people from grinding an easy quest over and over again they will start to receive a deduction to the experience depending on how often it was run. It's also important to know that even if you don't have the quest to complete you can still help someone else through that dungeon and you'll earn exp as well. You just won't receive any prize the quest giver will receive. I'd suggest reading a couple of the reviews that are linked on the DDO website. It will help give info as well.

Conspiracy... which NWN persistent world are you playin in? I've been a member of ALFA for nigh 2 years now.

Oh, and I might be persuaded to join a TD clan of online D&Der's. Wouldn't take much!

I played on the original Exaria PW, then moved over to Amon when exaria shut down. My friends and I will definately be buying NWN2 when it comes out.

I signed up for the DDO stress test and downloaded the client. Pretty hasslefree. Now we will see if the game piques my interest.

Ok, so I played a little bit during the Stress Test of DDO tonight. It took quite awhile to even get registered--the website was seriously stressed. Eventually, I got on a created a character. If you can create a character on NWN, you can create one here. Skills and feats are a bit different though. I did the first quest, which is essentially a tutorial. The graphics look great. I can see these dungeons being very fun in a good group. Combat requires youi to actually move around and strategize. I eventually had to log out though because the lag was just too great. Also, movement is by keyboard, not point and click like NWN.

Monthly fee, I assume? Feh. I refuse to pay each month just to keep playing a game I already purchased. That's why I haven't given any of the latest games a whirl. If they can't maintain a one time price, it's just going to end up being like crack.

I ended up not signing up for the game. It was pretty fun, but my friends and I simply cannot coordinate are plays times, and DDO is a game where grouping is REQUIRED.

Henwy, Guild Wars doesn't have a monthly fee--it could be worth a look.

Its funny how something that takes multiple days to set up comes down in a few hours...
