I'll stick with a microphone.

I love the helmet! Put a little metallic paint on it, a visor, some plastic mold and horse hair and you'd have a great looking knight's helm! Perhaps he is the official "guardian of players time" and goes about announcing the time and minutes remaining until the next group enters.

I know some of my party members (when I did a walk-on as a barbarian) were on edge they'd miss the start while in the tavern and shop areas. (at Indy '05)

At socal this year, when the group started they would write down everyones name in the party. And two minutes before they were to leave the tavern, we would annoucne the group time and names to make hteir way to the back of the tavern to their depart.
So they would meet there, get their AC done and go into the Dungeon. Overall I think it worked out pretty good.

Yeah, but the helmet would be so much fun for yo... I mean someone to wear!

The cards and announcement were a great idea. I'm sorry I missed SoCal; from the postings it sounds like a lot of good ideas came out of it.

I'm sure Heidi would look adorable. But I don't think its her preferred choice of headgear.
