TOPIC: A call to Grammarians!

Re: A call to Grammarians! 13 years 11 months ago #13

It's b - singular.

The "of their throsty purrs" is something else and does not apply. I'm thinking that's the predicate, but I'm not sure of that part. I was, and still am, a terrible speller but I got As in writing and grammer. It's been several years though.......

I know that Candace is VERY good in English.. Ask her.

just a guess.

i think "B"

in example "A" the word "are" refers to an action going to happen.

in example "B" the word "is" refers to an action that is current, which goes with the "ing" in comforting. i think it is called present tense.

Shouldn't it be A? I would think it needs to be plural since the verb refers to two nouns. Where's an english teacher when you need one?

Kim

I have a cousin who is middle school language arts teacher. I just sent this question to her to try and get an answer.

Kim

It is A)
A. The sound of their throaty purrs and the warmth of their silky coats are comforting as they sit on my lap.

The actual subjects are sound and warmth. You can tell if you remove the additional descriptions. The sound and the warmth are comforting as they sit on my lap.

Going further, try replacing the two subjects with proper names: Smakdown and Binia are comforting as they sit on my lap.

Ummm.... ok that went somewhere else.

I'm sorry Suzanne, but the irony there is priceless. :)

(I'm a horrible speller too, so don't feel bad.)
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
I'm sorta disappointed. I thought you were asking for fans of this

I'm a HUGE Gamera fan! Godzilla & Gamera, stars of MANY of my favorite childhood movies (and great on Mystery Science Theater 3000 too). I'm looking forward to the new Godzilla Movie coming out, hopefully it will be more true to Godzilla than the last "American" version was.

I like Gamera, but my heart is always set on Mothra.
