Hey, everyone. I have some news and a request.

Some of you may have seen me at Gencon last August working out in the Marriott Fitness Center. I've been working hard at losing weight since this summer, and I have been pretty successful. At my Weight Watchers weigh-in yesterday, I found out my total loss so far is 52 pounds!

A big part of that is from running. I ran in high school, but haven't been in running shape or even running in years. While I have been able to keep it up (ran 6 miles yesterday! =D), I decided to challenge myself with a concrete goal. I am going to run the Los Angeles Marathon this coming March. It has a new course that starts near Dodgers Stadium and finishes near my home in Santa Monica! I am really looking forward to this challenge.

I decided that I wanted to use my training to help others as well as myself. I joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, an organization that raises funds to fight leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and myeloma. I would greatly appreciate it if you could visit my fundraising page and make a donation to support my participation in Team in Training. You can track my progress as I get closer to my goal. The link to my site is below:

pages.teamintraining.org/los/LA10/BrianSymington

I appreciate your taking the time to read this, and I really appreciate your support. Wish me luck!

Brian, a.k.a. "bipsy"
I dunno....

Are you allowed to support finding a cure for a disease unless you (or a close family member) has had it? It always seems that you first have to find out you're afflicted with whatever it is before you get involved and then start haranguing other people about their cruel indifference. The only close family member I've had who's died did so due to Alzheimer's. I think according to the laws of human nature, I'm only allowed to support that cause.

More information: 75% of your donations go directly to fight leukemia and lymphoma. 100% of it is tax-deductible. If you have any questions, let me know and I will find an answer for you, or visit TeamInTraining.org for more information.

Thanks!

Brian
Good luck. I just had a friend train and finish his first marathon in Hartford, CT.

You may want to look at this site dailymile.com/ - good way to log miles and share your progress.

I've never quite understood running. My ancestors didn't go through countless generations of evolution so that I'd still have to run, and not even with someone chasing me. If I have to die while huffing and puffing and praying for death, I can think of more entertaining circumstances.

Its basically legalized drug use once you get past the first few weeks of feeling like you are going to puke your guts out (at least that is how long it takes me when I periodically take up running). Once the endorphins kick in you are like a crack addict.
true.. I kayak for the same reason... though it's different endorphins, and there's no-puking ( just risk of drowning)

Ran 4 miles today, including a hill workout. New shoes felt pretty good!

pages.teamintraining.org/los/LA10/BrianSymington
