Please reread my suggestion. Start at the Legendary to actually give players what they are asking for.

Artemis' +4 Assassin Crossbow

Rogue deals x3 Damage on Crit.

This is exactly the same as the +2 assassin's crossbow (which already works in VTD in both the App and TDCC), increases the damage wheel by 2 with a minor change to make sure it has two 6 on the wheel. This should require no code changes.

Relic and UR can be exactly what is in the images here, with broad class access and bonus damage to undead and werekind. These don't matter as much as getting a legendary Assassin's crossbow out there because people ask for it every year

+2 Assassin's Crossbow isn't remotely overpowered.

Raphiel's may be overpowered, but the crossbow was published long before Raphiel's suddenly made a wide range of values do 3x crits with a never reprinted UR.

I don't see Raphiel's being overpowered in the same way that other class legendaries from its era are, so, in my hierarchy of "that was a horrendous mistake", it doesn't rate that high.

But, whatever. Rogue is not remotely overpowered given that it's the worst class defensively at high level play and not everyone's experiences are stomping monsters in 1-2 rounds.

Well, at least it's not a problem in VTD. In in person play, maybe some stuff is broken that isn't in VTD, but VTD is far more often than in person play and sliding good numbers feels like a team activity with in person play (as someone on Discord pointed out), so other players could take some credit for crits of their teammates.

It isn't really what a lot of people are asking for. I think many want the UR reprinted, not a Legendary equivalent. People will likely still ask every year to reprint it.

Rogue getting 3x on any crit at UR is too good now that Raphiel's exists, so IMO the UR shouldn't be directly reprinted on balance concerns.

Could go with a functional reprint along the lines of the original item that only a natural 20 gets a 3x crit - that would be pushing the line on app coding that Jeff doesn't want to cross though.

I am 100% onboard with making a Legendary version of the Assassin's Crossbow which is Rogue-only for ease of coding. Numerous people ask for it to be reprinted every year and it would mean the Rogue BiS weapon is no longer an ultra rare from 2015.

The x3 effect on a reprint or legendary version should not trigger only on natural 20s as that would basically be the same as not reprinting it at all - the reason people want it is because it works with expanded crit ranges.
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

Quick note (as a Rogue, and a Combat DM):

Rogues aren't getting 3x on "any" crit with Raphiel's... Just the Sneak Attack crits.

While the Assassin's Crossbow can triple any Crit, Raphiel's only gives that sweet 17-20 expaned crit range for Sneak Attacks. Of course, with Raphiel's also granting 2 Sneak Attacks per combat, there's a pretty decent chance you can get a crit, but it's not like EVERY slide of 17+ will grant triple damage. If you're making a regular attack, you need to hit a 20 for the 3x damage to kick in.

Same thing for the Relic: The expanded crit range is only 19-20 for Sneak Attacks... and those are only once per combat (with 2 extras in the whole Dungeon).

It's still an amazing combo, but it's not quite as good as some players (including some Rogues) argue it is.

I don’t play Rogue (or Bard), and don’t own a legendary ranged weapon and would sooner buy or build towards Io’s or Thor’s.

I would just do the 3X crit and limit to Rogue. Rogues deserve nice things too.

I think you could keep the damage bonus to +15 per the Relic.

As for the crossbow. If you take the (+20 damage vs Undead. Were-kind & Outsiders) off and put just (rogue 3x on crits) it would be simpler and make is rogue players happier.

Also just a a note on assassins crossbow, to make it work for sneak attacks we are actually using other tokens to make the crossbow work. We need a token to enable ranged sneak attacks like lens of agility or Lenses of Vital Insight, we are using something to overcome crit and sneak immunity, us Raphiel’s, all to get the chance for the crossbow to sometimes work.

Perhaps the relic have kill undead, outsiders, etc on a nat 20 and max dmg pip then legendary have the x3 crit dmg for all classes.

As much as I love my assassin's crossbow, reprinting and nerfing it makes sense. There is precedent for doing this (healing lenses) and MEC. The nerf would be to make it x3 on a nat 20.

I really hope they don’t reprint just to nerf, I will be angry if they do that, and I know a lot of other rogue players will be as well. I have invested heavily in all the tokens around the crossbow just to make the crossbow work. I traded a bunch for my crossbow several years ago as well.

How about we tweak the Legendary crossbow so it has an insta-kill feature.

Any “20” destroys Undead, Were-kind or Evil Outsider if damage burst is facing damage dot.

Thoughts?

Jeff, that seems like a super powerful token to me now: Keen, +20 damage, and insta-kill chance. I certainly would equip one if I had it. :)

To stay on theme though, I'd keep the Relic and Legendary Crossbow at only having bonuses for Undead and Were-Kind, like the UR does. Adding Evil Outsiders doesn't fit the theme and seems like overkill.
