How about tokens that let the players be monsters hunting the evil monsters, granting abilities that are flavor/fun instead of pure extra power?

Dhampyr. "Hello. My name is Blade. You killed my mother. Prepare to die." Sees the invisible, maybe +1 strength, negative reaction from NPC muggles.

Golem. "Grundy protect!" Plus melee damage, minus melee to-hit.

Ghost. "They struck me down, but I became more powerful than they could possibly imagine." Incorporeal - great in combat, not so great in puzzles needing physical manipulation.

+1 to the idea of another series of cursed items.
+1 to the Tarot cards as box only collectibles.


Also new Hitchhiking Ghosts would be super fun.

Totem of Greyhawk - Uses a "Greyhawk" Item and 40 Bloodviles from Treasure.

Arcanum Ring & Greaves. I'd like to see them each be the sum of the ingredient URs, plus some sort of bonus or extra ability. The multi-year tokens have all been somewhat disappointing since the Boots of the Four Winds, it would be nice for them to be special again. There definitely shouldn't be any situations where any of the ingredient URs are preferable to the transmuted token, like there were with the Kilt.

Demon Pact - A Special Token that will double your treasure for a run, but you lose one UR, at random, and leave that space blank during a run.

Chain of Possession - 1/2 Chance to Randomly Summon a Ghost/Demon or 1/2 Chance that you possess another player for a combat.

Soul Nosher - A plus +3 combat double-handed sword that will cumulatively (10% per combat room used) try to steal soul of a party member. If the party member is killed, they can be revived after the combat, but soul nosher user loses some of their treasure to the party member killed.

I think general items should always be weaker than their specific boost counterparts, even if they're a rarity tier above.

Honestly, I think the best Eldritch design I've seen was the Kilt of Dungeonbane, so seeing the arcanum go in similar ways would also be neat.

Arcanum Greaves:
Pick one

• -4 Melee Damage
• -4 Spell Damage
• -4 Elemental Damage
• -4 Missile Damage

Arcanum Ring:
+5 HP and pick one

• +3 Saves
• -3 Spell Damage
• -3 Melee Damage
• +5 AC

These are harder to implement in the character builders I know, but much easier to balance and give players fun choices. I don't want an item that is objectively the best. I want to modify my build to what I feel is best for a given adventure.

Thoughts on set bonus, Arcanum typically makes me think of wizardry or spellcasting in general. Having spell damage effects or effects on casted skills could be neat. Mental stat bonuses could also be nice if we those rules get finalized before that discussion.

I agree with Mike on this one, the kilt was a messy design imo. Plus I don't think it's helpful to have players at that item level debating if they should make a transmute or keep the components.
