I realize I'm late to the party here, but just wanted to put in a plug for tokens that grant interesting abilities or create additional theme opportunities/alternative builds for players or require players to make trade-offs in their build plan. An example would be a wizard staff with a strong damage wheel (Muscle Wizard anyone?), or a melee damage booster that requires a minimum amount of Wisdom, or something that grants a larger benefit but also grants -1 to all saves.
When there is only one way to build a class, it forces the community into a constant min-max comparison, ie "That token doesn't give as many stats as this token so I won't buy it"
Alternative build design space is highly unexplored in this game. Because of this, it's only natural that we see unending feedback that typically falls into one of these categories:
"my numbers go up, this is great!" OR "this token doesn't give as many stats as this existing token so I won't buy it" OR "this is dangerous power creep, please reduce X"
I thoroughly enjoy that I've been able to build my Ranger in a way that gives me a sub-theme of free action healing potions for myself and others, however this has mostly occurred through slotless tokens so there's almost no tradeoff consideration that I have to think about at NM+ level. However, if, for example, there were a token that granted +2 damage for the dungeon every time I consumed a healing potion in combat, then I would get to weigh the opportunity cost against the token it would replace as well as the commitment to using consumables (Just an example, yes I realize this is difficult to implement with in-person TD, no need to come after me in the comments here). Just food for thought and an effort to create more sustainability in the token design process.
