FULL - V14 Sat Mar 11 6:36pm CST CURSED run 1 year 1 month ago #1

td.events/conventions/v14tot_ch3/slots/21624

I have all 10 tickets and am looking for more players; post here with class preferences if you'd like to join! Cost is $74 each; I'll PM payment details once we have critical mass.

This is a hopefully-hilarious challenge run using all of the 2022 CURSED tokens !

Technically we aren't allowed to equip those anymore, but that's good news because it means you don't need to actually own them; we are merely simulating them by voluntarily adhering to the following restrictions:
  • CURSED Candlestick of Anger: your melee weapon must be any 1-handed common weapon with 1-2-3-4 damage wheel and no beneficial effects, such as Brawler’s Mug (Common) or Drow Sap
  • CURSED Mirror of Pride: leave melee offhand slot empty
  • CURSED Lute of Lust: spend 1st round of every combat singing love songs to the monster(s)
  • CURSED Chair of Sloth: leave ranged mainhand and ranged offhand slots empty, take no actions on 2nd round of combat
  • CURSED Lenses of Envy: leave one eyes slot empty and don't perform missile attacks.
    House rule: if you equip Cranston's, you may use your second eyes slot as you wish
  • CURSED Scale of Greed: do not equip any synergistic tokens , i.e. no CoAS/CoS and no HHL.
    House rule: CoA works normally :P
  • CURSED Fork of Glutony: to receive the effect of a potion, two potions of the exact same name must be consumed

I'm thinking Nightmare difficulty if we get folks who usually play NM+, but could also be talked into Hardcore if we get a lot of interest from people who usually play HC+/NM-.

1. David Zych: flexible=Cleric (CoA x2, other synergy tokens not relevant)
2. Cary Kelly: Druid/Paladin/any except Bard (CoA) {paid}
3. dokkaebi: Elf Wizard (CoA x2) {paid}
4. Dan White: Fighter (CoA x3) {paid}
5. Rachel: Bard {paid}
6. Ian: Barbarian {paid}
7. Dave S: flexible=Wizard {paid:Ian}
8. kendal: Rogue (CoA) {paid}
9. Phil Norton: Paladin {paid}
10. James W: Dwarf {paid}

Since two of the curses prohibit missile attacks, we should probably make sure to bring some offensive spellcasters in case we get a no-melee room!

I'm not sure how the software will handle Monk or Ranger with these equipment restrictions, so please test ahead of time if you're interested in choosing one of them.

This looks TOTALLY bonkers - I'm in!

Willing to play ANY class except Bard - have CoA (though I do NOT have Bead of Bounty yet)

would love to join.

Looking at the curses, it seems like spellcasting bypasses a lot of the hindrances as far as slots that become blocked. Is there any desire to self-limit how much magic the party could unleash in combat?

I'm not sure if spells would trivialize combat, or if the lack of spells would make it disastrous.

Welcome!

Interesting question. :) My first gut reaction is that we didn't design the curses -- thematically this is something that happened TO us -- so it's a team effort to get through the dungeon despite them, and if leaning heavily on magic is the way to success then by all means let's take advantage of it!

At the same time, we may need to economize a bit on magic use; for the first two rounds of every combat we'll be taking damage without giving any back, and our healers won't have batons, so I suspect that using MEC too often will not be effective strategy anyway. Wizards still get their focus (minus staff) but melee fighters still get their STR, so the damage might end up more evenly distributed than one would initially suspect, unless of course we get a no-melee room in which case everyone else will be sitting in our comfy chairs cheering the spell-slingers on!

That said, if our spell-slingers decide to role play sometimes being overcome with anger and bashing things with the candlestick anyway (whether built for it or not), I'm all in favor of that! I'm inclined to leave it to their discretion.

Maybe use a few smaller items for retribution dmg, 2023 cloak and belt is +20 dmg, may help with the 1st 2 rounds. Loosing all weapons really sucks 😂

I'm leaning between Spell Casting Druid to get the healing along with some Magic firepower....or Paladin for some defense and Lay on Hands.

What are the classes others are thinking about playing (for those of us that haven't picked a class yet)

I'm waiting to see what others choose, but at this moment I suspect I'll end up as either Melee Elf, Cleric, or Dwarf.

dokkaebi, any preference for you?

As I like to say, where Cary goes, I go, and where dokkaebi leads, I follow. So I am in, I can take 1, or 2 and try to get my dad/bro to join, if not I can ghost the other.

Cary I will follow your lead, but can take Pally.

Welcome! Let me know if your dad or bro would like the last spot; if not I'll leave it open for another day in case another 10th player comes along.
