I was told the direction the clock turned didn't matter for normal/ HC, but did on NM and Epic. I don't recall anything in the clues that told us which way it needed to turn for the "actual" solution. Maybe something with the line dividing "Get thine" and "Fortune"?

Horn of Calling did not work with the wraith either since it wasn't a Maze effect. I like that the combat was different, but not being able to participate in 1/7th of the dungeon because a player took two hits in the first round sucks. More so since there isn't time to heal between falling out of the nether and having to go straight into another combat.

Was that on Hardcore? On NM I was on multiple groups that took damage when they tried alternating directions like that.

It was on hardcore both times being a 3 and 4 person party each time.. Without a clue as to know which way to turn it I would have been disappointed if it had to one direction. To be clear I think the puzzle was fine but if you need to turn it a certain direction there should be something pointing you to do so. Having people figure that out by taking damage is a poor puzzle design imo.

I remember being told at the end of one run that the direction you moved the clock was only important in nightmare or epic. if the direction didn't matter, we would have solved it earlier. As it was, on one nightmare run our party ended up taking 30 pts of damage each in room 1. As a cleric, I felt pretty good about my healing until half of it got used up before before our first combat. Fortunately, things got better after that.

That plaque is part of the season-long meta puzzle. There's a Discord channel setup to discuss if you are interested

On the Dire Wraith fight, preventing one of the hits (with a Cloak of Shadowskin, for example) would stop you from getting pulled through.

I think the dividing line is there to signify that "GET THINE" and "FORTUNE" are two separate anagrams, so you don't waste time trying to anagram "GET THINE FORTUNE" all at once.

IIRC a similar line appeared on the "EXCEPT / SNAG A RAM" sign in the V2(?) bridge puzzle room.

I don't remember a line in the Snag A Ram. But maybe. One DM told use the line was for dividing. Because both had E,N,T in them you could move them out. Maybe that was in the module and was Jeff's intent but if so Then I think it doesn't actually make sense for the solution. If it were a math problem then I would have thought answer was just 2. 8(10)/4(10) = 2. So I don't know that, but is what I was told on one run. I figure 2 anagrams is was more likely and that is how it was solved both times.

Though why you would enter 8 first and not 10 I don't know or 4 third versus 10.... Again I think the puzzle was neat but maybe because I only played it on Hardcore. Without anything to tell you that you need to go a certain direction (and which direction that is) it feels like a terrible puzzle to me.

Thank you. I didn't remember that line at all. But I know I expected no math in those anagrams.

I think there was definite need for an additional clue in V5c room 1 given how much damage that room could deal out. On parties that didn't already know the solution, we regularly took 30 damage (often getting to just about the same point of being about 30 seconds from the right answer when we took the push damage).. It was pretty impressive to see how many wrong (but entirely plausible) answers came up. One more clue in the room would have been nice.
"based on character count, clearly we should turn it to 3, then 5, then 7"
"well, based on character count, we've got 35/7, so we just need to set it to 5"
"oh wait, we should multiply the 3 and the 5, but wait 15 isn't divisible by 7"
"ok, if we cross out the matching characters, we've got 8 and 4, let's try those"
"oh wait, 8 divided by 4 is 2, let's just set it to 2"
"oh wait, let's put the 10s back in.. so 8 times 10 is 80 then divide that by 4 times 10... wait! that's still just 2"

I found the NPC rouge in the Puzzle room 1 pretty funny. "Don't you know it's dangerous to sneak up on someone with a knife?"

Lady, there's ten of us and one of you. If we snuck up on you, maybe you're not the Rogue you think you are.

lol. We unfortunately didn’ interact with her much as we were busy solving the puzzle. We did debate about if she was doing to backstab us later and whether we should kill her now.

She did tell us she never heard of Dalin. Now, she could have been lying about that, but seemed to appreciate our warning not to trust him. That earned her some small measure of trust. But then she also said she never heard of Lenarra and indicated she was new to the Thieves Guild. That might also explain her lack of skill in hearing our approach. I'm afraid though that she may end up going the way of Guna.

I have said before and I will say it again I trust Dalin 100 times more than I trust that Druid that wanted the Darkrift ore.
