Just got this email. To say I'm upset would be putting it a bit mildly.

No Events for True Dungeon at Gen Con
There will be no True Dungeon events at Gen Con 2021.

We apologize for our earlier erroneous announcement that we would be attending the show, and we ask for your forgiveness that we were not able to work out the details with Gen Con by today. We felt we owed it to our fans to make this no-go decision now -- before Gen Con badges go on sale this Sunday (5/23). We will return to Gen Con in 2022 with a full slate of events. We wish Gen Con all the best this year. The good news is that you can still play live-action True Dungeon at Gamehole Con.

Two Amazing Adventures at Gamehole Con in October!
We are thrilled to announce two new adventures that have never been played in person before!

R1 – Felurian’s Feast
Set in the amazing world of the best-selling author Patrick Rothfuss, this adventure tasks you with finding some rare blackberries to give as a tribute at a gathering of Fae nobles. Your group must overcome twisted puzzles and fearsome foes to see this task done.

Vx – Shyport Sinister
This is a hybrid adventure based on the V1-V5 series that sets players on a quest to save the city of Shyport from of plague of undead. The event features aspects of the V-series while interlacing new, exciting content. Anyone who played a V-series adventure will get XP for playing this adventure, also.

CLICK HERE for more information. We will see you at Gamehole Con in October!

Best Regards,

Jeff & Lori

I just read the email also, quite a shock.

I have a couple of thoughts/questions:

1) Does this mean the only way to get XP for these two adventures is at Gamehole Con? I hadn't planned on attending it, but I've done every single Dungeon ever done (including True Heroes) and would hate to have my XP missing these two adventures.

2) Is it too late to roll over the GENCON badges to next year? True Dungeon was the main reason I was planning on attending GENCON, I'm not sure if I'll still attend. At first glance I don't see the deadline on the GENCON website, but I was thinking the cut off has already passed.

EDIT: I just found out that, as I thought, the deadline for rolling badges over has passed. I really wish this announcement had come out prior to that deadline. Here is what I found: Your badge can be rolled over to our 2022 convention with a price-lock guarantee. All badge roll over requests must reach us by May 16 and include your Gen Con ID# (Next to your name on your account) and the name(s) on the badges to be rolled over.

This sucks almost all the fun out of playing V5a tonight.

Mostly because I'm extremely disappointed I can't roll over my badge any more. Would have been nice to know before the 16th.

Gen Con is still allowing rollovers without penalty (for now). Email customer service today to request the rollover.

The deadline to rollover was May 16th, but I saw a message on the Fans of Gen Con facebook page that they are running behind in processing the roll-overs and may still be taking new roll-over requests.

From the official GenCon website ( gencon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061013871 )

The deadline to roll your badge forward to Gen Con 2022 will be extended to June 25, 2021.

If you have a Gen Con 2020 badge that you have rolled over to 2021 but cannot or prefer not to attend in person this year, you can request to roll your badge forward to 2022 by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your name and Gen Con ID# (find it next to your name when logged in).

Customer Service has received a large number of rollover requests and it may take up to several weeks to process your rollover. As long as you have emailed your request to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and included your name and ID# before the deadline, no further action is needed.
If you have submitted a rollover request, you will not be able to register for a Gen Con Indy 2021 badge when badge registration opens this Sunday, May 23.
If you have previously requested a badge refund and it has not been processed yet, you can still roll over your badge by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and letting us know that you would prefer a roll over.

Mike Boozer posted on the Gen Con forums that they are still (unofficially) rolling over badges, due to Paizo's announcement a couple of days ago that they would not be attending. If you get your request in fast, you may still be able to roll over your badge.

Well, I'm officially not attending GENCON this year now - I emailed GENCON to see if it was still possible to roll them over, and they took that as a request to do so, and rolled my badge to 2022. Here is the email they sent me:

Hello,

Yes, we are still rolling over badges.

Thanks for rolling over your 2021 badge(s) to 2022. Gen Con 2022 is August 4-7, 2022. It will take us a month to process this so be patient.

Gen Con Customer Service will contact you in 2022 before badge registration opens to redeem your badge. It will be an allocation so there is no need to worry about the show selling out as your badge will be guaranteed and there will be no additional cost for your 2022 badge.

At some point your 2021 badge will be refunded for $0 and you will get a receipt acknowledging that.

Then we will email you in 2022 with a code to obtain your 2022 badge with.

We will provide full instructions.

If you had USPS mailing that will be fully refunded to system credit as we cannot roll that over. You can repurchase mailing in 2022.

Wrist Bands cannot be rolled over as well. You can add those to your account next year.

Wow - just wow. I can't question the decision because I don't know the huge number of details that needed to be worked out in a compressed timeframe.

Disappointed.

I really wish I had known a week ago. I made commitments to multiple people that I am attending and arranged housing for a group of us, largely because TD was going to be there. People purchased airline tickets, hotel reservations were made and I made promises to help friends out with load in/load out.

I know it had to be a difficult decision. I think it's too bad that companies like TD have to make decisions now when things in late September may be very different and very much improved. With four more months of vaccinations, I don't think there would need to be so many limitations - especially if GC decides to require them for attendees.

I mean, even CA is going to end all capacity limits and social distancing in less than a month (unfortunately they won't require vaccine "passports," although businesses can chose to do so).

It's especially hard on people like you said who made travel or accommodation arrangements based on the belief that TD would be there, which definitely seemed to be the case when it was announced that TD would be in Hall K just this week.

I found a list of “not going not happening” on the forums, cmon, fantasy flight, privateer press, true dungeon, Paizo. The auction isn’t happening this year.

Several announced just this week and others like AEG haven’t committed to being there or not. I almost feel bad about rolling my badge and at the same time I’m glad I was able to.
