Hey folks,

If you've been through a run before and know some or all of the room's information, please keep that knowledge to yourself if there are people in your group who have not run it yet. Don't rob them of the opportunity to experience the adventure fresh--the way you did the first time you ran it.

For the record, sending a private message to the DM with the solution to a puzzle will not prevent taking Push damage if the party as a whole has not solved the puzzle. Bear in mind, you're not going to lose any treasure if your party fails a puzzle room, so chill. Capisce?

TLDR: Observe Wheaton's Law
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections/suggestions in this thread .

  • It's only push damage...how bad could it be?!

Ugh, I can't believe this has to be posted. Especially in a run like this one where you can solve two of the three possible puzzle rooms in literally the last minute before the horn. I did 7 runs this weekend and every run had at least one person who was new to the run and it was easy to give hints as they went along and the DMs were happy to give us time reminders so we could still avoid push damage. We never suffered push damage doing this and more than one person actually thanked the party for making sure they got to enjoy the puzzles without spoilers.

C'mon folks, you've already completed the run, and have your XP locked in. Let everyone enjoy the ride.

No reason even to solve it in the last minute, just take the push damge, is my philosophy.

I always asked them before and offered that as an option. I'd say something like, "We can straight out solve the puzzle, we can give hints throughout, we can wait until the last minute to solve or we can happily leave it to you and take push damage if needed, whatever will make it the most fun for you." Everyone I personally asked wanted to go the hint/solve at last second route and I always made sure to explain WHY we got the answer if we had to give it to them at the last second. I even started developing some fun hints I would give out, including an audio clue at one point

Hey you do you. I still think there is no issue taking push damage.

Sometimes the folks trying the puzzle feel bad if the party takes push damage because they didn't get it. So, it can be better to help them out at the end if it's what they want. With the "if that's what they want" emphasized.

Again You do you. There is no issue taking push damage. Puzzles are designed so that someone that already knows the answer doesn't need to be on the run.

Don't know what you mean by that nor do I agree with you Jedi.

I personally expect 2-3 runs of a dungeon before I solve all available puzzles. There's literally no way for me to do that without playing puzzles I've solved before.

I don't disagree with taking push damage but I generally expect to run at least one extra time for puzzle solving each year, just my experience with solving puzzles on Day 1.

I'm doing more than that in VTD runs but I stay away from puzzles I've solved when in other runs when possible

See that is part of the point if it is your first run and someone else's second run, wouldn't you rather take the push so you can have a crack at it versus someone that already knows the answer Deus Ex Machina it for you at that last minute? I know I would. I am fine for taking pushing damage when I don't know the answer. I am fine taking push when I know the answer. I am not telling anyone else how to play. I am only saying taking push damage is not the end of the world and everyone should remember that. YES push damage can kill you if you are low. If you are low in a puzzle with time running out there are plenty of ways to deal with it before you get pushed.

Yep.

But not everyone feels like we do. Some play just for the combat and winning.

If they want hints ill offer 1-2.
If they want us to solve I'll solve.
If they want to solve it without help I'll let them run it.

I think we're in agreement on that?
