TOPIC: V2 Nearly Sold Out - Extra Runs?

V2 Nearly Sold Out - Extra Runs? 7 months 2 days ago #1

Wow. V1 barely wrapped and there are, I think, 4 runs (all Friday) open and none with all tickets open for V2.

Will there be additional runs and if so, when will those open up? I'd love to plan a run with my group that ran today but didn't expect them to be gobbled up so quick!

Yes, very likely they will add more.

Probably won't happen for 2-3 weeks as they have to handle wrap up of this weekend before looking at anything like that.

They may encounter an issue with adding runs based on the actual physical limitations of the location and how many groups can be in a given room at once.

I think it's a real testament to how well VTD was received that the full runs for #2 are completely sold out now. And, I'll bet #2 is even better than #1 since they'll have a lot more time to develop it, and can incorporate lessons learned from #1.

I noticed that a lot of the #1 puzzles still seemed to be designed to engage 10 people simultaneously, which isn't as important in VTD. I think VTD opens up some new puzzle design space since we're all looking at the same screen instead of 10 individuals in a room all needing to be involved at once.

More runs likely means more volunteers needed. Always a consideration.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Perhaps they add a second weekend for V2 like they've indicated they'll do for V1.

I think there was some vague mention of that as well.

Ultimately I would think if they can sell tickets for 2 entire weekends and make enough on the run fees to cover playing people it's worth hosting a second week.

Interesting thing. V2 is scheduled the same time as virtual GHC. GHC has been promoting it. At GHC the first day of runs is traditionally pretty spotty. Lots of unsold tickets.

I wonder if there will be enough tickets when Non TD fanatics start looking for tickets?

Could it feasible to run V1 and V2 that weekend? Space probably makes that impractical, but it would be fun.

A concern is whether there are enough Jasper Ellipsoids to cover the TD fanatics.

I'm thinking there's a very heavy skew towards hardcore and nightmare for all VTD, but especially V2 considering the power of the completion token.

Gen Con sees completion tokens run out all the time. Hopefully TPTB got enough of these printed to cover everyone.

Not sure of numbers obviously, but there were about 1/2 to 1/3 the runs of virtual TD1 than would have been completed at GC on a regular basis.

I didnt do any PUG runs, but people did seem to be trying to skew toward HC/NM.

It seems like it might be possible for coaches and DMs to work remotely, like from home, and not even be in Carbondale? Maybe that would allow for more volunteers.

Of course, you would still need NPCs, golems, and dungeon builders.

Its my understanding that that is the goal. One of the DMs this weekend was working from home. Some volunteers worked from their hotel rooms.
