TOPIC: Q on forming a Hardcore group

Three of us would like to have our first Hardcore level runs at GenCon. What is the usual procedure for getting together a group who all want to run at that level? Does one person buy all 10 spaces and announce on this forum? We are red 4th level builds, preferably druid, dwarf fighter, and barbarian. Thank you.

Having all 10 tickets and recruiting people on the forums is quite helpful, since any one player voting Normal means the run is done on Normal difficulty (all players must agree to play on -any- non-standard difficulty, including non-lethal). My group has had some success in the past (when we controlled 7/10 tickets instead of a full run) of bringing enough spare gear to kit all 12 classes with HC-appropriate gear and then asking if people were comfortable running the higher difficulty with loaned kits while in the coaching room. You can't count on that, though, so best bet is to coordinate through the forums.

Another option is to find a group that is running hardcore and ask for 3 spots.

When gencon tickets go on sale, they sell out extremely fast, and finding entire runs can be quite difficult. Although there are often forumites that are willing to transfer/drop runs as they figure out their schedules.

So you can either buy out a run and recruit people on the forums, or be the recruits yourselves for someone else's run.

If you can manage to get a full run, I’m also looking to do my first HC at Gen Con this year. 5th level bard and planning to transmute up to a Lute of Free Fury.

I normally buy out full runs and recruit members on the forums.

I could be interested in working with a group to play hardcore, my normal group that i buy out runs and play with is going to Origins this year. I've got some folks and plan on either buying a run or 2 or getting with another group for Gen Con this year. Think i've got 3-5 folks this year for Indy.

Part of this will come down to your desired effort. IF you're the go-getter love to have it all organized way you want it can be rewarding to 'run' the run but it can be a pain worse than herding cats. That said there is a joy when a group you've picked out and worked with succeeds.

Others have said and can be good is to become someone else's recruits. Being flexible on class here can help quite a bit.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Thank you all so much for the great advice! I'm willing to put in the organizing work so we can have the run we want.
So -- when does buying open for GenCon runs? Is it only in person or is there a website? And if some of our runs don't fill up via the forum, will there be a place where I can leave a signup sheet for the remaining slots?

The Upcoming Events page is a helpful resource, especially since every con is a little different. GenCon TD tickets go on sale on Sunday, May 17 at noon Eastern via the GenCon website. You must have a GenCon badge and login to purchase TD tickets. FYI, TD sells out at GenCon and the tickets will go quickly.

Gencon tickets are sold through the gencon website.

You will put together a 'wishlist' of tickets you would like. At noon EDT on May 17th, all wishlists will be processed (essentially a lottery system). Sometimes people are lucky and get the full runs they want. Sometimes they are not. For example my group had 12 people with wishlists last year waiting at noon at their computers, and we did not get the runs we wanted. Thankfully we were able to coordinate with some others on the forums and eventually got what we needed.

Usually once all wishlists are processed there are no full runs remaining, unless you coordinate a drop and scoop up with someone else who has all the tickets. Also expect all tickets to dungeons to sell out at Gencon.

To be precise, you have to manually submit your wishlist for processing, it's not an automatic thing.

Be aware, noon eastern means noon. Not 12:03. Not 12:01, Not 12:00 and 30 seconds.............

How do I submit my wishlist? I went to the TD GenCon page, clicked on "CLICK HERE to see all the available event tickets for TD at Gen Con.", and got a page-not-found error, so I'm guessing that's the sign-up-when-slots-open link, but I didn't see a wish-list submission link. Or are wishlists a "You've written down what you want to go for with backups and backup backups, then start typing at 5/17 12:00:01" type of thing?

I'm willing to buy up and organize one Hardcore run (Darkhold Keep) for Thursday or Friday. Hopefully other people will organize other Hardcore runs with slots available for the other two adventures.
