TOPIC: 2020 GT Run S3 Tomb of Terrors Group B

I thought I'd start a thread for this run now that it is full. As of January 8, 2020, the list is:

It looks like with one exception (Paladin), everyone can have their first choice of class. I think I got the class preferences straightened out, but let me know if there are any errors.

Bill Krenson, would you be willing to be flexible with Paladin. I'll have the Ava's Holy Avenger and would like to slash some monster with it.

I do prefer Paladin and by GenCon I should also have an Ava's, but if kakitahan will give up monk to me then all is good. If kakitahan does not want to give up the monk then I propose that you take dwarf fighter and if for any reason I do not have my Ava's in time for the run we will switch. How does that sound?

Sounds good, to me Bill. If Kakitahan would be Bard it would help the party but understand. Looking forward to this.

I don't mind playing Bard. My Bard gear isn't optimally geared for Epic but it can do nightmare no problem. If anyone has a Widseth's Legendary Lute that I can borrow, that would help as I only have the relic. I might transmute it if i have enough mats but my primary legendary transmute this year is a Benrow's.

Don't expect me to get any monster lore checks correct as I don't plan on studying the memorization part. (i'm just very bad at it...) Well I will have a FoP: Raven, so 1 will be correct... haha

I can become a Troubadour if we run Epic as I will save my ROSP voucher for this run

I have the Legendary Widseth's, and you're welcome to borrow it Jason. Alternately I can bard if you want to do something else.

I have some tokens I can lend as well if anyone needs. Also have extra avarice and other TEs if needed. Last year Jeff was super generous and gave everyone full treasure regardless, but it would be kinda rude to assume that level of generosity every time.

I'll play whatever hole we have left. Looks like cleric currently, and I'm happy to play that.

I would prefer to play on Epic, but will be fine with whatever the group decides.

Already super excited! Only half a year away!

Thanks Jason, Monk is my second favorite class . I'm glad we could work it out.
As to epic, if S3 premieres at GenCon then I would rather go with nightmare.

This year I plan to stay for the whole Con and not leave right after the GT run like last year.

I have equipment to lend out as needed. COAs + TE's, charms of awakened synergy, etc. - everyone should have max treasure plus the CoAS at 10 to start.

It sounds like we have 2-3 people who can lend out the legendary bard item. I'm pretty sure we can lend out 1 of any legendary class specific item as needed.

I recommend epic - we skated through nightmare last year.

Finally, anyone interested in us doing the Charms of Transmorph again? I can provide a set if everyone is on-board for it.

I’ve updated the first post based on the discussion in the thread about classes. Please let me know if I got anything wrong.

I also have a Widseth’s Lute that could be loaned to Kakitahan, but it sounds like that is covered multiple times over already, as are CoAS and TEs.

It looks like the only questions left are whether this will be Epic or Nightmare (with one vote for Nightmare if S3 is debuting at GenCon) and whether we should take Fred up on his generous offer to use a set of Charms of Transmorph.

On a personal note, my Barbarian build is solid for Nightmare, but my to-hit is a little low for Epic. I’d feel better doing Epic (if that’s the group’s preference) if someone could lend me a Surtr’s and/or a +5 Deathcleaver (I’m currently using a Belt of Ogre Mage Power and the +3 Deathcleaver).

An interesting note... if the entire group did keys of healing and shirts of linked healing, I suspect our bard could easily become a healing machine. 9 healing per casting to the entire party (likely can do it 5 times) generates 450 healing plus bonuses (75 likely bonus healing.)

I was thinking about how viable it would be and it seems downright reasonable. Everyone would lose a charm and shirt slot for it to work. I’m not sure if that is worth the trade off.

Thanks for the loan offer, Fred! I should be good on Epic with those items.

Regarding the Key/Linked Shirt idea, I could easily add the Key to my build if we don’t have to equip TEs, but otherwise I’d rather keep my Greater Onyx Charm. (Or maybe the Charm of Glory—all depends on the Wonder effect.) I did get a Key as a random UR, so I have one I could use. Probably would keep my Shirt of Blessed Strength, but happy to discuss further.

I’ll vote for epic. I like the challenge.
