Go with what you like to play in video games.

Just some additional info...
Casters have different sets of symbols they need to memorize if they want to do bonus damage with their spells and generally don’t have to slide a puck in most cases.

Weapon fighters basically just slide their pucks to fight.

Rogue has the additional option to try to open a chest for an additional treasure token or clue in the puzzle rooms.

I’d say base your choice on what you feel you would enjoy doing from that.

You can also look at the How To Play section of this website to get a closer look at the cards for each class to get an idea of other skills each class has where you may find one that interests you.

Sometimes it’s nice to just open your packs and see what your best equipment is, and just plat the class that fits your equipment best.

Teamwork, communication and cooperation are the keys to success.

You have 12 minutes in each room. Use your time efficiently. Slide and move out of the way quickly. On memory tests, don’t agonize. If you know it, say it. If you don’t, guess and move on.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I'd recommend not worrying too much about whether you succeed or fail in each room, and just "enjoy the journey". Try to make sure that everyone can get involved in every room, and try to make sure everyone gets a moment to shine. Focus on having fun, and enabling your entire party and the TD staff to have fun as well. :)

You don't need to spend money on tokens, but if you choose to, look at tokens that can help any class (or at least multiple classes). Don't get invested too heavily (emotionally or financially) in a single class as you can only guarantee you'll play that class if you coordinate all your runs ahead of time.

Dont be afraid to ask questions, participate in puzzle solving, etc. Many, many of us are happy to talk TD any time.

Also, if you're trading tokens, always get 2 independent opinions before making a deal.

As a new player , Welcome to one of the most giving, friendly communities around. Take some time, explore the forums and website. Ask questions where necessary. Don't feel you have to make a huge investment to play. Pick characters that you enjoy playing/running. Create an online account (save those codes from your runs) and when you are ready, take a shot a volunteering if you feel up to it. And over all, WELCOME!

Every class is useful, but they play in different ways.

Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, and Barbarian are good if you get a decent weapon in your token bag and want to be more directly involved in the fight. You'll slide pucks every turn and generally mix it up. Monks are good if you don't have a good weapon but still want to slide a lot of pucks.

Rogue is good if you want to slide pucks but also want to do puzzle boxes. The extra treasure you can get is nice as well, just don't be a jerk and see if your party needs a hint before taking treasure for yourself.

The casters are good if you want to play strategically. You pick from a limited selection and quantity of spells, and try and get a good strategy. They also have memorization tests, but the spell will work even if you fail the test. It just won't work quite as well.

Bard is good if you want to sing and dance. You won't be doing much during combat other than singing for everyone, but you make the rest of the team more effective and you're really valuable in that capacity.

There's no right or wrong class, just go with what seems like fun. If you get a chance try different classes out, especially on normal you don't have to be great at it, you just have to enjoy yourself.
