TOPIC: Transmute idea

Transmute idea 4 years 8 months ago #1

I know this would probably be to much for the coaches but with the two new three star transmutes, as they are, being useful for brand new runs and with the three star transmutes usually not needing MB. I wonder if say a new group come in and has the components for the lenses of the owl, he could explain how they could be turned into the lenses and transmute it right there for them.

I just know when i started I knew nothing about transmutes and I feel this would give people a wow factor before they even started

This isn't a bad idea - but it's hard to see how to implement it without additional volunteers.

I could imagine rather a desk at the end of the epilogue hallway with some prominent signage and maybe even some set dressing that transmutes only 3 stars for new players.

That would require at least 8 volunteers over the con.

I do think it would be neat to offer the instant gratification of transmutation - but if it's going to happen I think one would need to work with the directors to demonstrate it's going to be supported with volunteers and not distract them from the 101 things they already need to do.

Even a poster that shows the 3-Star transmutes might be helpful.

That honestly would probably work for the majority of people. Put a map to the transmute room on it and if they are there early enough then they can go get it

None of these are bad ideas. However, my Coaching experiences tell me that people don’t read. We have signs at various points. We have FAQ sheets in coaching. Few people even glance at them, much less actually read them.

Do you think it would help if they added more info to the audio tracks that play in the coaching rooms or would that be equally ignored?

I like the idea of advertising transmuting more, but I don’t think the coaching room is the place for it.

People are excited, talking to their party, looking at their tokens, trying to figure out how to even play the game. I think newbies are overwhelmed already, and I don’t think it’s the time for muddying the waters with the whole transmute system. They won’t have the necessary trade goods anyway.

The last time there was a newbie recipe that didn’t require trade goods, some veterans made dozens or hundreds of them and TD ran out, so the very people meant to get them couldn’t.

Veterans who have some bandwidth because of their experience should already know about transmuting.

I think that the best place would be after epilogue - but that is easier at some conventions and harder at others.

To be Frank we run such tight time lines I wouldnt want to send people out of the room to wait in a line that might make them late getting back. Coaches might be able to handle simple starter item trades but I feel like it's a can of worms we dont want to open.

That said there was the one year an npc walked room to room offering to sell players valuable clues about the dungeon. It might be possible to work something like that, sort of a traveling tinker to steal a bit from Rothfus's world. That said it really is a question for TPTB more than the forms.
