TOPIC: Three first timers looking for a group

Three first timers looking for a group 4 years 10 months ago #1

Hello, myself and 2 of my friends (all of us 40+ males) will be attending GenCon for the first time and hope to experience True Dungeon with a group that is somewhat experienced, but willing to share the spotlight with a few uninitiated noobs. Also looking for any advice those of you might have for making our first experience a positive one. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums!

Once tickets go on sale, there will be a ridiculous amount of posts with people who have bought all ten tickets to runs looking to fill spots, and also people who bought tickets looking to connect with others who have the same run.

Connecting with the people on your run is a great first step to making sure everyone is on the same page in terms of difficulty and class selection, which will make the run go more smoothly, and be more enjoyable for all.

There will also be a section of the forum dedicated to those looking for more people, those lloking for others who have tickets for the run, etc.

Welcome! Looking over the Player’s Handbook (available under the Resources section of the website) may be helpful. You don’t need to memorize it, but being generally familiar with the character classes, how combat works, and how character stats work might make things go a little faster in the coaching room. If you are feeling really ambitious, you could look at 2019 token collection in the token database to familiarize yourself with the tokens you might receive in the free 10-pack you get with each run. (If you aren’t going with a pre-built character from one of the vendors, or planning to borrow full characters during a pre-organized run.)

As others have said welcome, but dont count on this. Formites dont make up nearly so big a segment of the population as we used to, last year it was downright difficult to find fill in runs on the form so get your tickets early if you can.

Your best bet is to load up on several different slots during event reg, and then checking the forum if you didn't get what you want.

It your thinking of picking up tokens before your events, I have threads with recommendations in each of the class forums. I've been meaning to add some basic builds to the threads, so if that appeals to you it would be all the motivation I need.

My best advice is fill your cart (wishlist) with as many non-overlapping runs as you can, go out of order, and fingers crossed.

If that doesnt work, look for groups looking for more. That means someone holds extra tickets and is looking to fill them from the forums. These kind souls are generally very happy to help new players.

If I end up with any, I'll PM you.
